Kokusan

dear Morinisti,

Question: are all Kokusan equiped bike electric start.

why: at the moment I'm building a replacement for the Kokusan Ignitionbox. Retaining the original flywheel en pick-ups it is just the digital unit to organize the timing of the sparks with an optimized ignition advance curve and rev limiter.

I have this system running using a paddock starter but kick-starting is not easy. kickstart-leverage is just one revolution, crankshaft speed is low and variable and the pickup triggers at max-advance. At the moment a not usable configuration.

so if all Kokusan-MM are electrically started I can drop this option for my MM500.

kind regards Anne Galama

Yes they are, some even have the kickstartlever removed. Watch out when kicking though, it sparks on every rotation and can kick back very fiercely unlike the Ducati-ignition

Thanks, solves some issues with sensor characteristics. I’ll set minimum rpm when starting at 300 and skip sparks in the first few revolutions to get a reliable reading. Anne

I think the Kokusan system “ likes” the electric start. My kickstart is rather tall being on a Coguaro.
