Hi All,
The 1200 is a bit new to me, so I'm looking for where to find the crank position sensor and ignition triggers, can't find them on my wiring diagram. Am I missing something?

Thanks Tom,
So that one does both functions, crank position as well as speed?
I am (slowly) learning the detail 1200 motor.

Yes, one of the cam gears has a trigger wheel on it so it gets speed from the trigger wheel teeth and there is a missing tooth which defines the rotational position.
The ECU then knows cam position and will double the speed for crank speed and calculate injection and ignition timing etc accordingly.
Not so different to the pickup on an aircooled Morini’s cam in that sense.
You can see the trigger wheel in this photo from the manual, with the missing tooth at (1)

The - so called - phonic wheel (D) e,g. the attached sensor does generate rpm values and ignition timing, the speedo sensor is located at the swing arm.
The rpm value is then sent from the ECU to the dashboard via CAN bus.
Furthermore the gear position is calculated by taking the rpm and speed infos.

Thanks Guys,
Very good explanations, much appreciated.
The cams are chain driven from an intermediate shaft, I can see, but what drives the intermediate shafts from the crankshaft? Is it gears?

Do you have the workshop manual ? That helps a lot.

I have downloaded the Corsaro ZZ manual from the members area. Some places I have trouble understanding what part of the engine is shown, in some of the little black and white photos, there is sometimes no context. And sometimes not a photo of the thing I'm looking for
Thanks for the photo you posted it had the clutch and starter motor in it so I know exactly where I'm looking. From a manual or your own photo?
