Stupid Button

Post by AusVeloce »

Has anyone had any issues with that stupid mode button on the Corsaro dash. I fitted a new battery recently and when I depressed the mode button to re-set the time it remained stuck down inside the console and I can't get it back up. I have tried (gently) to coach it back up but to avail.

Is the console a sealed unit that can't be opened?

Yeah that happened to dad's veloce. He managed to coax the button out but it was tricky!

I think you can only enter the menu just after you switch the ignition on and without the engine running otherwise the menu function is locked (can't quite remember what the criteria are, would need to check). It's easy to think the button is not working and push it too hard when the menu is locked, which causes it to get stuck under the rubber boot.

If you cant tease it out I think you can split the instrument panel, I'm sure I heard someone say they'd done it. Maybe check back the old forum posts...

use a needle and then a tiny bit of black or clear silicone on the hole, which will be hard to find when the needle is removed. (practically self seals)

I have been told by the Head Mechanic Dominic at Fx Power Sports that this dash mode button is pneumatic in operation. So pricking or rupturing the rubber therefore would not be such a good idea. The mode button on my Veloce is not working also, so I just leave it in the gear select position.

The 'Head Mechanic' is talking cobblers.....the mode sitch is a conventional microswitch operated by a rubber 'pip' on the back of the mode button....I know because I've got my old unit apart at the moment (see earlier post)

since the dash is in bits, any chance of some photos so that the rest of us don't talk "cobblers"

Seriously though its a good chance for the rest of us to let you break your dash whilst reassembling and we'll lea  rn from your mistakes

I have the stupid button problem too but in addition the speedo and associated displays have gone feral with the speed indicated anywhere between 0 and 300 kmh as soon as I move off.The display constantly changes with no relationship to actual speed. I had an auto electrician check out the sender unit, all okay and then he split the dash to further investigate, but told me it was too great a risk to proceed as the unit did not appear to be designed to be serviced. Whilst apart he restored the mode button but when I reinstalled the unit on the bike it only lasted 3 pushes before it stuck in again. Does anybody have any ideas because I am reluctant to chase another dash only for it to suffer the same fate? Presently I am using a GPS to moniter my speed.
I have had my Avio for 1 year and while I love it there have been quite a few minor issues, such as a broken wire to the fans and an oil leak to the rear rocker cover gasket. When the latter was resealed, the mechanic failed to seal around the spark plug cavity correctly so it leaked through the drain hole at a far greater rate than the
previous area! So the job had to be done twice.
I previously owned a 500 twin Morini some 30 years ago,an ace bike but difficult to start.
I live on the Sunshine Coast QLD Australia.

Erol- Sounds like the wheel speed sensor not the dash. I've had this happen a couple of times, and new sensors under warranty cured the problem.

Before you search out new parts try the following;

Carefully clean the wheel speed sensor and the disc bolts.

Clean the sensor connector (you can trace it up from the rear wheel to underneath one of the v shaped frame infill covers.

Check the sensor to disc bolt clearance. I'm told the shimming is important (there are shims underneath) but I dont know the spec. I'm sure somebody on here could measure for you...

Thanks Tom for quick reply and I'll check your advice out soon as I get my bike back in a fortnight's time as it is having a PC fitted in Sydney. The auto elec did tell me that the sensor did check out okay on his diagnostic gear but it won't hurt to do as you say. I'll let you know how I go. Cheers Erol
