found the original morini service tool

it's in 3 parts and takes a dial gauge with an 8mm shank held in place by a grub screw
all 3 parts screw together, i've checked it in the engine and it works ok (need a gauge now)

where the dial gauge body goes is about 20mm deep. Half of that depth is required for fitting the grub screw to hold the gauge , so a dial gauge with about 0 to 10mm , would i reckon be correct as the sliding rod(middle part of last photo) inside the brass tool moves 10mm max when pushed by the piston.

one point i noticed about the tool was that if it was screwed in to the spark plug hole too tight it would be possible to unscrew it and be left with the top two parts in your hand and the last section stuck in the spark plug as it unscrewed from the other sections when removing the tool from the head.
It would be better to fit a grub screw to keep all parts together as, if the 3 parts are not tightened up really hard you are in trouble.

if anybody wants to make a copy i'll post up some sizes and thread info later. The tool is made of brass , but you could make it out of anything.

quality of the pics is not great as it was a poor camera

Good work Twisty, I reckon I might be interested in the specs, if you could find the time of course.
Where did you manage to get hold of it in the first place?

i bought 3 or 4 new morini tools that someone in france was selling a while ago. I think they new that the company was going belly up ,before the rest of us.

I'll see if i can just post up some details of the other tools as well. The tool in question looks pretty simple to make with a lathe. The gauge cost me £10 (must have 8mm body)

The only problem i've got is measuring the thread sizes as the taps and dies i've got don't seem to match the threads , but its not critical anyway.

I've made a similar tool in the past by drilling the centre (porcelain bit) out of an old spark plug and adapting it to fit a dial gauge....just a thought....
