Hi all,
Been a while since I last posted on here but still mostly happy with the Avio. I am however a little disappointed by the durability of the finish on the engine. Last year (after one year's ownership) I had the clutch cover replaced under warranty as the paint was peeling off. 3X were pretty good about getting this sorted so no complaints there. However, after returning from an extended trip overseas for work I have discovered that this is now happening again on the clutch cover and also appearing as bubbling and peeling on other locations on the engine. Given that it's Italian, am I being unreasonable in assuming that this would last for any reasonable preiod of time? The bike is kept garaged all of the time and is rarely ridden in the rain and, in the event that it is, is washed after. It also gets a good wash after being used during the winter when there is salt on the road. Of the few Corsaros I've seen this doesn't seem to be a problem.
I'm down to 3X this week for a service and will be raising this with them but just wondered if anyone here has suffered the same problem or is it just a case of they all do that?

i was under the impression that the morini was very good at holding on to the engine casing paint.
The worst italian bikes are the ducati's in particular the multistrada 1000's whose paint came off like peeling an orange.
Overall the finish on mine is holding up well, with no problems.
Why not post a picture of the flaking cases so that a comparison with other folks bikes can be made.

4 years and my engine casing are fine.
I take care not garage or wash the bike until it has cooled off.
Lots of ventilation helps also particularly when stored over winter.
All in all the quality of the paint is good as are most aspects of the bike.

Been away for a few weeks so not followed up on this but attached are a couple of pictures of the paint issues I'm having.



They're obviously not major issues and not the end of the world but more than I would expect given that the bike is reasonably well looked after. Prior to this I had a Triumph Speed4 that lived outside for 4 years, was commuted on almost daily and at the end of my ownership it had a couple of furry bolts and that was it. Two years in to owning this, garaged all of the time apart from a handful of nights, and always cleaned if it's got wet or salty and I have paint bubbling and pealing away. Otherwise it's a superb bike, this just marrs the pleasure a little.
I've spoken to 3X about it and they are going to start a warranty claim although how far this will get given the Morini situation remains to be seen, although they were quite optimistic that it will be rescued sometime fairly soon. Worst case scenario is that I have to buy the appropriate parts myself and replace them, once parts area available again
Failing that, does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to get the whole engine re-finished?

That looks pretty bad, I'd be pissed off too. So far my '08 Veloce has had no issues.

No progress on this so far.... To be honest, with the current situation with Morini I'm not expecting much more to happen about this. I've chased 3X to see if they have had any luck/are likely to be able to source any further spare parts but am still awaiting a response. Maybe, if they have enough parts to build these last few bikes, they may have a few spare clutch covers knocking around somewhere

I'd just seen this in the diary and would have loved to be able to make it, especially as it's just down the road from me. Unfortunately I work overseas and will be away for all of April. Typical timing really. All the good stuff goes on while I'm away. If things change I'll certainly be there however. If not, maybe next year though

the paint on my cover has also gone furry and peeled off,only done 4000 miles and kept in garage,cleaned,acf applied regular since new.the quality of the fixings is rubbish aswell for the cost of these bikes the finishing should be a lot better!! wish id stuck with my sv and put flat bars on it!

i noticed on some engines the oxidation starts behind the paint where the hose connects to the engine (the one that is prone to popping off).
the hose clamp in picture if you scroll back .
If not caught quickly and sealed it will then allow further under the paint oxidation and bubbling. Probably the ends of the coolant spigot not properly sprayed at the factory allowing oxidation on the bare metal to spread.
Since its a hidden nook and crannie it is easily missed until too late.
probably under normal use not something to worry about but add lots of road salt and water
overall i'd say it must be some bad batches left to long to oxidise before being sprayed, as the quality that i've seen beats some of the ducatis that resemble a peeling tangerine after under a thousand miles, and thats without salt. It was one of the reasons i ditched my duke as the dealer said "but they all do that".

To be honest I don't ride the bike that much during the winter, mainly because I'm out of the country working for a large part of it, and given how quickly the paint falls off I tried to avoid riding in salty conditions where possible.
I found that the problems intially shows up on the clutch cover around the exposed metal MM emblem. I'm not sure how this is sealed to prevent corrosion but I guess this is an obvious place for it to start if not sealed properly. They already replaced the original once because of this and this time it has come back but also on other parts of the engine as seen in the photos.
It's not the end of the world and I'm not massively bothered about it. I was just hoping to get it sorted under warranty if possible before my three years were up. I guess that's a lost cause now
