Indicator wiring

Post by twisty »

Have a look under the rear mudguard behind the number plate. the original wiring on my bike is just plain bullet connectors all tied up in a neat bundle with tie wraps from the factory.

The connectors are full of road gunge and corrosion, worthwhile replacing them with some superseal type waterproof connectors.

My indicators are totally gubbed with corossion as they are not factory sealed where the wire enters at the number plate bracket

Worthwhile fixing before it happens on the road and maybe leading to a short.

After picking my bike up in February the rear left indicator began working intermittently – which was both annoying and dangerous.

A friend took that bundle of wires apart and found that a build up of gunge and subsequent corrosion was the problem – he cleaned and rebundled.

They've been working perfectly since but I'm looking for something I can attach to cover this wiring as it is ridiculously exposed. If I find a solution I'll let you know.

picked up a superseal six block waterproof connector off ebay for about £6 and i'll tuck it in behind the number plate . (mudguard side)

There is superseal connectors on the morini on the coils etc but not where you need them most.

Excellent idea – I was looking for something to cover the lot but a superseal waterproof connector kit will do the job. Looks like Mr eBay has another customer tonight – thanks for the recommendation!

when I do mine i'm going to put the connectors in heat shrink tubing. just disconnect, put a 10cm sleeve over, reconnect then slide tubing over. once in place heat with a heat gun or hairdryer and it'll shrink tight over. will only cost about 50p to do too.

Twisty & Franky: I see what you mean. I have just fitted LCD indicators which look a lot sharper.Heat shrink is the way to go for wet weather proofing.LCD,s seem to make the flashing rate faster for some reason but they are plenty bright enough though.

Due to the change in resistive loading you will need to put a compensator in the indicator circuit to bring them back to normal, they are available from places like deamon tweeks or busters, or if you’re not worried leave them blinking quicker.
