1st service milage/trackday update........

Post by franky »

my "spanner" came on at 931 miles......... seems a strange milage to come on! what milages did other peoples come on? i know for 08 they changed when they would come on. Is it triggered by engine sensors etc?
Looks like my clutch fluid has gone off slighty looking at the colour of it too, new fluid should make it lighter.

At the first serivce i'm going to get the track only ecu fitted then on a dyno to see what the air/fuel ratio is, it seems like the bike runs rich so by leaning it out more it should use less fuel. I'll have to save for a powercommander though, i'll be getting one from the states somehow!

Forgot to say the bike was great at cadwell, lapped at a good pace, handled great, good enough for the pegs to scrape on one side(veloce rearsets) and the side stand on the other  Brakes were firm all day with no overheating or change in lever travel. the bike did about 80 track miles till the fuel light came on too, so about 20 better than my sp1.

It was nice to see some other forum members there on their bikes too. maybe we should organise a meet before this time next year?

Franky - good to see you there at Cadwell.

I can concur that my CORSARO (std trim) went well with pegs and my toes scraping although I have lost the bite point on my front brake.I need to look to see if it needs re-blead or crap around the pots.

I can wholey reccomend the Metzler rensports as they gripped well beyond my experience on my 1st track day.

I cant remember when the servicelight went on ... I too changed the clutch fluid at it looked like engine oil at 1,500 and this gave me a much better feel.

I'm still waitng for a list of what upgrades are due on my 08 bike and trying to get a new cush drive under warranty. In the meantime i'm using old bicycle inner tube as a packing to get teh slack out ot the drive!

Cheers Nigel

Good to see you both there, next year hopefully I will have a trailor so I can bring the yellow beast as well as my 'old' morini.

The service light on my '06 corsaro came on at pretty much bang on 1000 miles, both times (when it reached 1000 and then when it reached it the second time, after the new dash). I'm only on 650 miles on the yellow one so we will see when that spanners me. 931 miles is close to 1500km so maybe they have dropped the interval from 1600km to 1500. I would be suprised if there is anything clever going on in the engine management system to determine service interval.

Franky, with regard to your track ECU don't forget that for maximum power it will be mapped rich, typically around lambda 0.9 or 3%CO. Also at high load it may be deliberately overfuelling to cool the exhaust valves. The other thing is it is not too hard to sort the fuelling on a dyno by doing a powercurve but that won't neccesarily sort the part load and transient fuelling out, which I suspect is where you really want to lean it out, if anywhere.

Anyhow, either way I hope you continue to enjoy the corsaro and that evil bark from the debaffled termis :D

Yep i'm not chasing ponies, just smoothness. It'll have a run with the std ecu and then the race one to compare what if any changes it makes to the bike, also with 40% throttle. Ideally i'd have loads of cash so I could get a de-cat to test it with too and a powercommander all at the same time

But its more like paying for the first serivce/dyno runs and have a think from there on and a get saving, although I need a new lid and boots too

was there much damage to your bike at cadwell? any chance of a pic of your bike with the carbon parts? I've got to wait till mid september for mine, takes the pi$$ really as thats nearly a 4 month wait.

glad you're enjoying the new bike.

Hi Franky,

yeah fair point, would be interesting to see some back to back runs on the race and road ecu too! Money's always the limiting factor. And work, that always gets in the way!

My dart was ok after the crash actually, carbon bounces pretty well! Rode it the 100 miles home on friday, very gingerly as the front end did not want to go where I pointed it. Very un-morini-like! I'm hoping that something failed because it wore out/came loose rather than because I've found the front end's limit. Haven't had time to look properly yet but seems to be wheel bearing or fork bushes gone awol...

Pictures of my corsaro...How do I post them then? My favourite bits are the under tank infills, they make it look so much better than the standard plastic ones.

Bad luck on the wait, not sure why it's so long really, parts availability has been really good for me. That said I think the factory closes down over august (as does most of italy)

you could use photo bucket? Or email me a few if possible so I can get excited waiting for them! do they seem like good quality carbon?

I'm waiting on the fly screen/front fender and spoiler/tank and seat inserts/key guard/hugger/chain guard/gel seats/tank cover and I think thats it!

what parts have you had to order before? sorry to hear about the carbon beast. I can remember at the time you said you didn't know what happened, could it have been cold tyres?

franky and trix

I don't have access to photobucket etc and won't have time to sort that before I go away but If you send me a pm with your email addresses I will email you some photos of the carbon bits I have.

Franky, sounds like you ordered the whole catalogue! I have the mudguard spoiler, under tank inserts, under seat inserts, chainguard and hugger. They are all factory parts supplied by 3X and are of very high quality, up there with the best I've seen.

As far as the carbon dart goes, the front end actually collapsed as I tipped it into the hairpin. Chris and Dave had taken it out for a few laps immediately before and said they thought it handled a bit funny. I'm just glad it let go on me and not them. Haven't had a chance to strip the front end down yet but with the steering on full lock you can turn the front wheel quite a few more degrees! I think its either a collapsed wheel bearing or fork bushes...

Corsaro parts wise I haven't ordered anything for my corsaro but dad had quite a big shopping list for his veloce (it had been dropped). The wait time ranged from 2 weeks to maybe a month, 6 weeks at most, but then we weren't in much of a hurry. Given that there are very few corsaros in the country still it's bonkers for the dealers to keep vast stocks of bits and so long as the wait times don't go crazy I think that's reasonable. I'd rather wait a little for parts (frustrating as it is) than have morini dealers go out of business/drop the franchise because they have parts on the shelf they have paid for that nobody needs...

If you do get fed up waiting then Chris Gill at 3X (parts manager) Is very good.

Carbon parts for new Morinis are posted on their web site... Toms' carbon bits for the Dart were a one-off (yes, Tom?)

Posting pictures - mail them to the web maestro and he'll put them up for you... :)
