Aftermarket brake pads & buying parts in the UK

Hi all

I've owned a 2009 Corsaro for about 10 months and need to get some parts. I live in London and have been calling around some places to get some quotes, below are the sort of prices I've been given (all inc. VAT).

Front & Rear brake pads: £160

Genuine Chain: £135
Rear Sprocket: £100
Front Sprocket: £50

First of all I was wondering if these prices are reasonable, I expected the chain and sprockets to be expensive but the brake pads seem exorbitant.
Would there be any reason not to buy these pads off ebay?

Lastly if anyone knows any good places in the UK to source parts at more competitive prices or even good quality aftermarket parts compatible with this bike it would be great to know.

i'd steer clear of someone ripping you off for front brake pads at that price. I think they must have seen you coming

I'd imagine a sprocket and chainset kit would be far cheaper than the prices you have quoted. You can always look on ebay.it to see what's available if nothing shows up on ebay or other sites. You now have "o" ring and "x "ring chains to choose from. (i think x ring are slightly more expensive, and some reports say they hold the in built lube better.)

Brake pads will probably be a personal preference, being an old fart , sintered used to be the only ones that worked best in the rain but since i'm not so clued up about them now i don't know if that still holds true.

I've personally found that comparing a non branded name with a name like ebc for instance then i'd go for the slightly dearer one if money is not an issue. Probably depends if you hammer the brakes or if you do track days then pads will probably be more important due to fade.

Try The Chain Man for a chain quote.

I would think less than a ton for a set of pads.... the last set I bought for a Brembo were about £20 a disc.

Outrageous.

The pads are standard Brembo fitments.

EBC FA244 or equivalent for the front - less than £20 for a pair of HH sintered pads

EBC FA266 or equivalent for the rears. Cheaper still.

Just Google the part numbers and look for the cheapest.

I would go with the fully sintered HH pads on the Corsaro.

Do a search for my previous thread on sprockets & chains. You'll not get a decent chain without coughing up some decent money but those sprocket prices are taking the p*ss.

Morini parts
Front Sprocket £38.54
Rear Sprocket £84.31

non-Morini DID X-Ring chain £93.25

Of course there is then VAT and labour to add.

Go on Italian eBay for best prices for chain and sprocket sets. Also Bike torque racing a good source.

I vote for EBC HH pads (I have also disks from EBC). Have been using EBC also on my track R1 and Hayabusa...

Morini parts from Italy. Got chain and sprockets (+2 teeth rear) from here:

At Polo there used to be some non standard sprockets too. Haven't checked it lately though...

I take it the ratio 40 17 is standard and this chain will definitely be compatible with the 2009 corsaro veloce?

I just ordered the DID 40 17 chain.

As for the brake pads, I'm a little confused. Most of the pads advertised specifically for Corsaro's look like this:

The EBC FA244 hh sintered pads recommended earlier look like:

There is quite a difference in shape between the two. The EBC ones look better but will that shape definitely be compatible with my bike?

Turns out most sellers use a generic image of brake pads that look nothing like the one you will receive.
