Hello,

I am new to this forum and interested in buying a secondhand Granpasso. Currently I am riding a BMW 1100 GS but I still miss the fun I had with my Elefant 900 before that. The Morini seems to be the right alternative and are now second hand available (if you can find one).

I tried to find a model history of the bike but could not find one, this is wat I have collected so far.

Introduction in 2008:

Model H83 from March 2009:
-Lower Seat height (830mm instead of 870mm)
-Rear tire from 150/77 to 180/55
-Upgrade of ECU for smoother run at cold start

Model 2010:
-Seat height back to 875mm
-Heat shield in two parts, exhaust plus one for battery holder
-Different foot rest and rubbers (off road style)
-Adjustable handlebar
-Indicator lense is yellow instead of clear and silicon treated to prevent water penetration
-ECU sensor moved from cat to front exhaust pipe (oxygen sensor)
-27 Litre tank before (used to be 25)
-Weight now 210 kg (used to be 198)
-Higher total load allowed (kg?)
-New injection system
-Different Excel rims

Some questionsI still have
-Especially the cold start engine performance seems to be poor on the 2008 (and 2009) model. Is this really an issue?
-When excatly were the changes on the ECU programming/injection done?
-Was the H83 only delivered in 830mm or was there an optional high and low seat?
-What about spare parts are they still available?
-What is the reliability of te bike like?
-Is the above model history correct?

Would appreciate your response because it is not so easy to find thi info on the web.

for me it seems to be on the spot but i'm not sure tho.
If i'm wright you live in NL ? in the netherlands there are some MM dealers and 1 of them is even the head of benelux , the guy working there is really helpfull with all your questions and i'm sure he or MM themselfs would be willing o help with this.
i've contacted MM myself and they reply fast so give it a shot

It is hard to find the Granpaaso secondhand in the Netherlands....

this is the correct history:

2008:Introduction of the model H87

2009: Introduction of the model H83 (in parallel with H87):
-Lower GEL Seat height
-Rear tire from 150/77 to 180/55
-Rear shock absorber with shorter spring..
All of these 3 points lowered the seat height (830mm instead of 870mm)
-Upgrade of ECU for smoother run at cold start for H83 and H87

2010: some upgrades:

-Introduction of Heat shield under the battery holder
-Different foot rest and rubbers (off road style) same as scrambler
-handlebar Risers plus 2 cm
-Indicator lense is orange with silicon gasket instead of clear and silicon treated to prevent water penetration.. (in particular orange to improve the indicator visibility..)
-Lambda sensor moved from cat to front exhaust pipe (oxygen sensor) with new ECU and software.
-The same Excel rims with Alpina Patent (nipples with o-ring)
- Possibility to mount oil cooler same as Corsaro

I think that's all!

Ok I don't think its that straight forward Marco.
I have 2010 H87 . It has amber indicator lenses and alpina STS o ring spokes,but doesn't have the improved heat shields, lambda sensor in front pipe, handle bar risers or scrambler footrests.
I'm not sure the full 2010 spec bike made it to production before administration.

if they al have the same exel rims (wheels ) how can one have an 150 and the other 180 .
Because if so then my next rear tire i will go for an 180 if it fits my rear rim

Both have Excel rims but different width.

Can somebody tell a bit more about the cold start issues with the 2008 model. Has this been solved with the re-programming of the ECU? (I also read that Iridium plugs will be helpfull?)

Or have the cold start issue only been solved fter the ECU change on the 2010 model?

Are there still spare parts available?

hi m8,

about the cold start issues , for me there are none as long you give the bike time to warm up abit ( stated in the manual ) just start the bike open your garage put ,close your jacket ,put on your helmet and gloves and by that time the bike is happy enough to go riding . OK at first it will be a little holding back if your to carefull with the gas but it passes fast . They told me yesterday it can be fixed with an update (will do this soon) and a power comander will help too but really i dont see the need .
I'm quit happy the way it runs now , it's still an italian with charater so for me the update wil be enough.
And really the bike starts perfect its just if you start giving it short gas shots (broem broem ) when its still cold it will stop but only when its still cold.
Don't forget it is still a 2 cilinder so getting it to start living (starting) is difrend then a 4 cilinder.

PS: a 4 cilinder you start a granpasso you bring to life

go test drive the beast mate and your hesitations will fly awy

iridium plugs and minimum 97 octane fuel did it for me, less jerky at low revs and fuel consumption a bit better too

thats kinda the problem with internet isn't it
If you go check a brand (motor, car) you will always find people that have problem with it, there is no machine or what so ever made by man that is flawless .
And ok i had some small stuff to but nothing really whaah i gonna sell it
example ( waterhose came off , i put it back on . Bould an raditor came lose and i turn it tight again . )
So if that makes it a bad bike i'm happy to have 1 of them hihi

Yep you are right. You only hear the bad stories.....However I must admit that I did not find a lot of issues with the engine. The things I found and read all gave the impression that the engine is bomb proof...

Need to find a spare saturday to drive the machine (difficult with a young kid), Will let you know.
