Christmas tree lights

They definitely worked when I packed them carefully in to the very empty Quality Street tin last year.
Hey, guess what... the little sods refuse to light up this year
Is it just me or is this the norm?

As we know, electrical faults are nearly always caused by carburation; how are the jets?
