Insurance premium renewal jollies

Post by funsize »

Whilst no real proof is needed that insurance premiums are dreamt up in a Jimi Hendrix style purple haze whist smoking cigars and spinning a roulette wheel, I’ll just supply you with my dealings this evening for my 1980 Strada..

Current Premium to 6/1/25 paying by DD including breakdown, legal etc £166

Renewal Premium (no change in circumstances) to 6/1/26 paying by DD including breakdown, legal etc £188

New (meerkat) quote to 6/1/26 paying by DD including breakdown, legal etc £66 instalments or £59 one payment, all comparable-in fact better as my no claims are protected-just £200 higher compulsory excess. Here’s the best bit, obviously different broker but SAME UNDERWRITER 😂😂😂

Merry Christmas everyone and I’ll certainly have a happy new year now 😃

The Mysteries of insurance.
I had a standalone policy for my 350, as well as having a modern bike policy.

When the modern bike (1200) policy came up for renewal I added the classic bike to that policy.
I got a refund on the unused months of the classic bike policy, the policy was about 130 quid (with breakdown and legal)
Here's the fun bit
It reduced my modern bike policy by 80 quid same broker (Carole Nash) and same underwriter (Ageas)
What?
It seems that the "risk" associated with the classic bike is very low and it derates the policy, I never knew.

Yep, total mystery aren’t they? Another gem was when LV one year were cheaper for our cars, home and travel insurance. As we’d then got a multi-policy discount I thought I’d try them for my bike renewal which stood at £170. They quoted £350 and couldn’t reduce it. So I stayed with Highway, who are a division of and owned by-wait for it-LV!!

My wife added our daughter aged 25 but with 7 years claim free record as a named driver on her car policy and the premium went down. We thought we would try our son 22 with 3 years no claims and they wanted another 170 quid.
Use plenty of anonymous and incognito browser sessions and keep trying, yeah and you can get a different price on mobile versus computer, in the end may be you can get a good deal through a human if you can stand the horrendous "on hold " music. One thing I found is what you put as occupation I used to put engineer but the algorithms think that means you are a service technician driving around to sites rather than an office based job, so it is higher risk.
