Strange White light ...........

Hey there,

Recently imported from Italy New York has a white light which points backwards and comes on with the side and headlights.

It does not appear to be on the wiring diagram. Two questions,
What is it for? Surely an Italy only thing.
Do I need it for MOT? - suspect not, a white light pointing backwards sounds illegal to me.

Any thoughts?

Definitely not legal in UK and I'm sure anywhere else-looks a bit DIY and I can't think anyone would want to add a reversing lamp!
