Hello Morini members,

So, this is my first post and here is my recently acquired 1980 500 Sport. The colour is nice but odd so would imagine that it has been repainted at some time, wouldn't come from the factory like that?
So here it is;

Hello from Perth, WA

Post by 2volts »

G'day.

I'm Peter, from Perth in Western Australia.

Was a member of MRC in 80's & 90's and involved in the Australian Morini club in the early 80's.

I've got a 1985 Camel 501 that I'm getting running again, I want to convert from X2 to X3 spec with bigger fuel tank and more fuel range.

Previously had a 500 & various 350's.

Also got 2 x Laverda Jota projects and a Yamaha WR450F for the real serious off road riding.

regards

Hello,
Thanks for allowing me on to your forum. I've been an Italian bike nut ever since I was a kid (being half Italian probably has a lot to do with it) and been lucky enough to own models from most of the marques. I run a small custom bike workshop down in Cornwall turning classic Italian bikes into Café Racers. My most recent build was a Morini 3½ which I'll post in the relevant section, during the build I was a regular guest visitor to this forum seeking helpful advice and so I thought it would be respectful if I came along offered my thanks and gratitude to you all for this incredible resource. This build was my first ever encounter with a Moto Morini and I must say what an absolute pleasure and joy it has been to work on such a beautiful machine. So much so in fact that I am currently looking out for as many more as I can find, I just love these bikes! Hope I don't upset any purists that might be floating around here.
I look forward to enjoying your forum.
Regards
Mark.

Hello everybody,

I´m Norbert and to say the truth I entered this forum for the first time in May 2007. So maybe it´s time for a presentation
My morinilife is splitted up in twoo parts, some 6 years with a Tremezzo Sport in the beginnig of the `80 and the flashback that came in 2000 and it looks like there is no cure.Right now there is in my garage: Rocinante, originally a 3 1/2 K, now powered by a 501

Then we have a Camel 501 out of order for some years:

And another Camel, disguised like a KTM, this one I have matriculated in Spain, but in the moment with severe motor problems:

And the "Dulcinea" project, that began like this soooome years ago:
can´t add a third picture

I have a special reason for this presentacion:
Does anyone of you know abaout a couple that lived near Bristol in the beginning of the 80ies, their names were Steve and Zoe? Steve had a Laverda, Zoe a 3 1/2. I met them on my england-ireland- tour with my first Tremezzo in the summer of 1983, spending two days with them and later on with the the parents of Zoe on their camping in Wales. I´d realy like to know wether they are still in contact with the moriniscene. It´s a pitty, I made a lot of nice pictures on that journey. The problem was that the camera was out of order

Hello all.
First post but been lurking for quite a while. I bought my 08 Veloce from 'Franky' back in 2011. It came running full Termi system, race ECU and PCIII. I had it remapped at RJS (Mallory Park). It only required minor tweeks and the fuelling is now spot on. It also came with lovely Brembo master cylinders and some carbon bits. I've added a few other carbon and billet bits and bobs and just fitted an Oberon clutch slave cylinder (not properly tried yet).
Preaching to the converted I know but WHAT a bike. Masses of torque from nowhere, handles and stops brilliantly, looks great. And the noise....
I've worn out 3 sets of cheek pads just from grinning.

Just wheeled off the lift after winter clean and service...

Sorry about the crappy picture.

Now we just need some dry fine days.

All the best

Hi all,

Like a few people above - long-time lurker on the forum. Well, not that long - approximately since Alan Cathcart reviewed the new 11 1/2 in MSL this year (Spring-time?). Basically, I pretty much liked the idea of a back-to-basics, stripped-back, no frills (although I understand one of those new-fangled ABS systems might be on the way! :D ), moderately-powered V (L?)-twin, fairly reasonably-priced……the fact that it only comes in black is just the icing, as far as I am concerned! :)

As he stated in the article, he's a long-time Morinisti (?) and, given the amount of bikes he gets to ride, they must be doing something right!

My only problem was (still is!) that I have very little knowledge of MM, bar the vague memory of when MCN put one up against a Trumpet Scrambler (one of my previous bikes) and others, only for the MM to completely annihilate the competition in the eyes of the testers. I can't even remember ever having even seen one in real life!! So, I began reading here, trying to gain info. Whilst it has been interesting reading and, amongst other things, eye opening as to the upkeep they might take (!!), there seems a distinct lack of info on the 11 1/2. Do we know if anyone on the forum has one yet, or even seen one in the metal?! Have any even made it to the UK?! I thought about ringing NLM to ask, but thought they might just tell me to s*d off! I've seen the odd article in print and online (there's a brief MM article in the latest Ride), but a lot of the stuff, naturally, is in Italian, and sometimes German (Google Translate has been helpful here!! :D ).

I'm going to Stafford at the weekend, so will make a beeline for your stand there, maybe buy some goodies etc., and at last see an MM up close! (if anyone knows what issue of ATG the 11 1/2 has appeared in, please let me know!).

Should I end up getting one (it would be next year anyway), I'm up Yorkshire-way, so NLM is not too far. I see your last ride out was in a similar area in the Midlands as well, so would hope to make some of those. Likewise, I've seen some suggestion of ride outs up here, elsewhere on the forum - I know plenty of good roads nearby.

Look forward to speaking to folks, and hopefully learning a lot.

All the best,
Ben

Ben
I put a photo of the 11 1/2 in ATG 327, I took the photo when I was in Milan last year and went to the 2014 model launch at the Pirelli shop there. They will be rare as if you are going to spend that much then most people will go for a Corsaro. The 9 1/2 never sold very well here for just that reason and Morini are a much smaller concern now than they were when the released the Corsaro and 9 1/2 to start with. It also shares a lot of components with the Scrambler and that is notionally cooler so probably takes a lot of sales from potential 11 1/2 owners
There is a test in the August 2014 issue of Bike which also has an article on the new factory.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for the reply - much appreciated.

I was asking if the 11 1/2 was featured in ATG because, if there were any copies going begging on the stand at Stafford, I would know which issue to pick up! :D

I take your point re. the 11 1/2 v Corsaro on price, but £12.5 would be way beyond me! I actually prefer the look of the 11 1/2, certainly in print - this may of course change when I see either/both in the flesh. I do currently run a black 600 Hornet - maybe it is simply familiarity of form?! Interestingly, Kev Raymond in his article in Ride this month says he preferred the 11 1/2 out of all the models he tried (although admittedly the Scrambler only needed a tyre change, and the Rebello had been crashed the day before, apparently!! ), and would spend the £4k saved over the Corsaro customising the 11 1/2……like I say, we'll see…..its only a pipe-dream at this point anyway.

I missed the August issue of Bike, but have just found a copy on eBay, so will have a good read of that when it arrives.

I have seen on the MM website that they are having a showroom opening in Milan in early-November, along with extended test rides, so am currently scanning the Ryanair site as we speak!! I wonder if that would be the most extravagant test ride I'll ever take……?!

Thanks again Dave,
Ben

Welcome to the Forum, Ben and see you at Stafford. There you may be able to chat to Paul E, who has a 9 1/2, the fore-runner of the current model; he loves his... I also know of a decent Corsaro that's likely to be going spare from another Club member, so a good time to be looking.

And don't worry about the dreaming - it's a good part of buying anything new to you!

Good riding,

Perish the thought, Ben, they are far more helpful and eloquent than that.

Hi Ben,
Will PM you next time the weather's looking like it'll be fine for the day, I'll have a ride up your way. Have a look at and a spin on my Veloce if you like. I have a black Hornet 600 too BTW :D
