Gear lever splines

Post by Galligaskins »

Hello all,

does anyone know of a steel gear lever off another make of bike that would fit a 350?
I've recently bought a 350 Strada and a previous owner has modified the footpegs to move them back about 3 inches but left the gearlever and brake pedal in the original position. My feet aren't that big so I now have the choice of either repairing the footpegs back to the original dimensions or keeping the footpeg position and fabricating a rearset gearchange linkage somewhat like the later factory Sport, and shortening the brake lever. I'm happy to do some fabrication, lathework and welding but I don't want to touch the existing alloy gearlever. Basically, I need a steel gearlever that fits the Morini that I can modify to suit.
I don't want to go full rearset, like a Tarozzi.

Hello Howard.

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm afraid I don't know of an alternative gear lever which would fit the splines on the 3½, but it would be interesting to find out.

On the later K/K1 Sports the gear lever pivots on a spigot which is welded to the frame. On earlier Sports the spigot is on the footpeg as can be seen in the attached photos.

Mdina don't currently have the footpeg or lever in stock although it sounds like you can fabricate something of your own.The part you really do need is item 6 which is part number 45.02.35. Mdina do have those... In fact, according to their website, they have an astonishing 957 units in stock!

Good luck.
Jenny.

Hi Jenny,

that's brilliant! Thank you very much!
That's exactly the bit I need. For some reason I thought such parts would be like hen's teeth.

Thank you for the welcome. I was going to introduce myself in the relevant thread, perhaps still will.
I had a 3 1/2 Sport back in 1980, and after a long break I'm rejoining the fold.
