Paul, my bike was running crap at Cadwell last year - it seemed slower than ever. I wondered if it was the 2-1 I had made and thought about replacing it with 2-2 using Armour headers and the free-est flowing silencers I could find but a genuine Valentini sounded good. I noticed on the Smoke Morini l...

Floating Disc Conversion - Problems

I've been speaking to the manufacturer of a floating disc brake which some of us have fitted. If you have this mod (normally sold by Thersby Group on eBay) and have not been contacted please contact the manufacturer immediately. He has kits to fix the problem which will be sent out shortly or you ca...

Tecmoto Open Day

Richard, dates are getting taken up quickly. Some thoughts: 25/4 Bristol Italian Day & Stafford Classic Bike Show - NO 2/5 Mayday weekend (& Morini Commitee) - NO 9/5 Thundersprint - possible 16/5 BMF Show - we don't go anymore so possible 23/5 Whitsun - NO 30/5 start of TT practice - possib...

Valentini Racing Exhaust

I saw this exhaust on Italian eBay http://66.196.80.202/babelfish/translate_url_content?.intl=us&lp=it_en&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.it%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D130300083584%26ssPageName%3DMERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores%26refitem%3D130283085461%26itemcount%3D4%26refwidge...

Factory Visit 2009 - Travelling & Accomodation

Is anyone else planning on riding an older Morini (ie pre 1200cc)? I'm thinking about taking my Kanguro - big tank and just rebuilt - but it would be at a leisurely pace of 65-70 mph. By my own reckoning that means an average of 40mph off motorways. Via Michelin gives a route of 1600-1700km from Bat...

Nick, not easy. I can't recall how the mechanism works inside the cases but the switch is on the outside with a spring loaded pin going through the cases to contact the gear change mechanism (the mechanism might even be different so that it pushes the pin out when in neutral). I've had them on two e...

Italian bikes used pretty standard fork sizes the options were -
small bikes 32mm
medium/large 35mm
occasionally big bikes 38mm

Look for 35mm (this is close, as a gnat's whisker, to Brit bikes using 1 3/8" stanchions)

Chris, the reference to 125s was just an example. If you check out the report http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/mcn/2008/march/17-23/mar2008roadtaxcriticism/?&R=EPI-99336 you'll see (note the date!). What I've found convinces me this is all false. The 2008 Budget, published befo...

I've done this on my Sport. I can't post a picture as Yahoo have messed up my Flickr account. I used wavy mesh, that looks like it has been stretched, cut to size and bent/moulded to fit the inside of the case. Then used Araldite to fix it, leaving it under weight over night to set. It looks good an...

Motorcycle Road Tax

Old Bike Mart for February has a report on p13 from Missing Lincs Triumph OC about road tax being doubled for bikes this year. There is a web address for a petition. The only evidence I can find for this on the Web is a report on the MCN website from last March mentioning a statement by the Environm...

Duncan, I haven't found a disc lock (as they mostly need a good hole or cutaway in the disc) but I use an 'old fashioned' U lock through the spokes. The trick I found is that with models before, I think, K2s this can be stored in the front engine plates. Originally I use an old handlebar grip stuffe...

First observation - changing gear (from 4th to 5th) does not affect the behaviour of the ignition or the carburettors. But going faster needs more power which only shows at the higher speed. What transformed my '77 Sport was swapping the original floats for new ones. With the old ones it was impossi...

What silencers do people recommend for performance for a 3 1/2 Sport. I'm interested in what's available not the stuff of legend.

Sorry, what I should have added is to get some special rubber grease which is intended for brake systems. NLM sell small satchets for 50p. This should be used on the pistons in the caliper and master cylinder on the surface outside of the seals which doesn't get lubricated by hydraulic fluid. A stic...
