Re: rear wheel bearings

In the end the hub smashed and I wasn't using a huge amount of pressure. These wheels must be real delicate. Ow. Drum brake, I assume? I have a spare single disc spoke hub that's surplus to my needs... Penetrating oil can help too. I've found nothing works better than a 50/50 mix of atf and acetone...

Re: Suitable Clothing

Is safety and convenience a priority over price? If so, this is the one: http://www.aerostich.com/roadcrafter-features As close to waterproof as a suit gets. Leather like protection. Huge number of vents; can be warm in winter and cool in summer. The coolest thing is you can get in and out of it in ...

Re: Shocks - Brand and length.

How did you dial them in - i.e. did you get springs according to your weight and the bikes or did you just tell him what they were going to be put on? LTR As far as the race bike, they were pretty close, but I think I ended up making different spacers. Incredibly good shock for the money, but finis...

Re: Shocks - Brand and length.

Personally having raced on both, I think NJB is a a better shock than Works regardless of price. But the Works look very nice, don't they?

Re: 5k Resistor plug-caps - EVGuru?

Below is an interesting test Rainier Lamers did on resistance in spark plug circuits: http://www.ultralightnews.com/enginetroublshooting/resistorcapsandplugs.htm Text from the website is below. Sam In order to get to the bottom of this Spark plug vs. resistance story I decided to do some experiments...

Re: headlamp

Perhaps I should have been more clear regarding the headlamp - I'm looking for a complete headlamp/shell assembly - everything that bolts to the brackets. I looked at the headlamp thread and it seemed to reference only the bolb/reflector parts, though I must admit I could have looked more thoroughly...

headlamp

I'm assembling parts for my Morini rebuild, and two things I'd like to replace are the headlamp and the headlamp mounting brackets. The ones I have are solid but quite rusty, and the headlamp chrome ring is scraped up pretty well. I'd love to replace them with clean stock stuff, but I'm guessing tha...

battery eliminator

OK, dumb question that I used to know the answer to but I've forgotten - can a Morini be run w/o the battery or will it kill the alt/reg? If not, anyone know if the battery can be replaced with a suitable capacitor? The MM in question is a 250 twin, c. 1983, but I'm asking more out of simple curiosi...

Re: Racer

Nice one Sam. I always thought the single front disc was enough to stop a Morini, you don't need the weight of twin discs. Anyone agree or disagree? Griffo For even the most ambitious street riding, I absolutely agree. In racing, probably, but I'm not so sure. I'm going to be putting 2x cast iron r...

A good welder could fix it no problem, assuming it was disassembled. A *really* good welder could do it in place, assuming you removed anything rubber, ie the sprocket and shifter seals, before the job was done. But there are few welders that good, and many who *think* they are that good, so I'd pla...

I'm a little concerned with the 350's lack of engine performance above 80mph. Racing, ideally I'd like to see the ton as quickly as possible, Other than fitting a fairing, will the 2+2 or L5 cam help?[/quote] Hey - the 3 1/2 is no rocket sled. No doubt a hotter cam will help, but you'd probably be b...

I used to race Mosport and Shubenacadie, and raced a modern outfit up at Alma once- great experience! We'll see about next year; I'd like to but it's harder now that a US dollar isn't worth 2 Canadian. Sam That's great news Sam! I've considered racing maybe one of the uscra events, it's a 12hr drive...

Northeast US racing

FWIW, I just put a proposal into the USCRA rules committee to allow 350cc Morinis in the Lightweight Supervintage class - this would puts them in a relatively competitive class of pre-1972 360cc 4 strokes and 250cc 2 strokes. Rules are at www/race-uscra.org. For those of you that don't know them, th...
