Re: Suitability of 500 for touring
Makes me remember of the French star Georges Monneret doing a "Tour de France" on a 50cc Moped, with the wife on the back and young son in a single-wheel trailor.

Re: Suitability of 500 for touring
Well, I allways considered that half a day on the motorway is half a day lost, while a full day on secondary roads is already holidays. Of course this is just a personal opinion and it widely depends on how far you want to go and how much time you have. To go to Cadwell I take the motorway, even if ...

Re: Dart valve seats
Yes, marketing has a lot to do with playing with words and letting people believe more than what you effectively said. In this case, it will do nothing, but at least during 1.5 milions klms. I am wondering what it starts doing after that. For the quietness of your mind, you might have a regular chec...

...With my rider's hat on.... We had a wonderfull day. As usual, it was perfectly organised, up to the weather that once again improved just in time for the track day. Many thanks to the whole team, and especially to the little big man under the hat! Only sad thing is thatA lex Mayhew broke an arm a...

Re: Suitability of 500 for touring
I have used my 500 a lot for touring, from the Swiss Alps to John O'Groat, but always alone on the bike so I can only guess for two up. For me, it is perfect for riding to the other end of the world at around 110 km/hr. The 478 engine does not like to rev like a 3 1/2 Sport, and it sits comfortably ...

Re: headlamp
The troubles with the 35W halogen bulbs are that: 1) they are only 35W, while the real H4 comes in 55/60W. 2) this bulb is a halogen replacement for the original incandescent (non-halogen) lamp. Ideally, the lens must be designed in function of the filament dimensions, and most of the 35W units have...

Re: headlamp
You are right for Bosch or Cibie, they don't sell the shell. This is specific to each motorcycle. However you might get similar stuff from other bikes like a Guzzi V35/50/65 or a Ducati Pantah. Bodging with electrical connections or changing the fixation hardware could be necessary, but nothing impo...

Re: headlamp
Hi Sam,
Have a look at the topic about headlamp bulbs in the Tre e mezzo forum, there is some information there. Basically, CEV non halogen lights are rather poor, you would get a nice improvement from Cibie, Bosh or Hella H4 headlamps.
Brackets can be sourced from NLM.
Good luck!

Re: MRC trackday 2010 Cadwell Park
Thanks for warning us Paul. I recently feared I could not participate when I incidentally discovered a broken frame tube. Luckily NLM will weld it back in place on my way to Cadwell. A bit frightening yet: the crack was hidden behind a cable and it is only because I removed the cable that I saw it. ...

Re: headlamp bulbs - std or halogen or hid
I could only encourage you into finding a H4 headlamp. Even if some other types of bulbs have appeared over the last years, the H4 remains the reference when you have a combined light (full and dip). They are produced in huge quantities at a low price for a good quality, and you are sure that you'll...

Re: colour wiring diagram
Just an advise: add grounding wires between the various grounding points of the frame, the engine and the negative of the battery. Much better than to rely on a corroded steel frame to transmit the return current.

Re: Front (disc) brake sticking on
It could also come from the piston of the master cylinder not returning to its normal position. But in this case you should notice an unusual free play in the brake lever. I am currently having this problem with the rear brake of my 500; cleaning the caliper did not help and I discovered only later ...
