Need a cheap new battery?

In my haste to purchase a battery for my 500 I ended up getting one too small (bloody internet). Im guessing the code was for a non electric start? Anyway the code for this battery is CB18L-A. Given I really do want to use the starter Im going to sell it and get the right one (yuasha 53030- I have n...

Wiring question

Hi After a few years of distraction I have decided to finish off the new wiring and get the old girl going. However, I'm confused but the wiring diagram. ( top tip, don't make 95% of a brand new circuit and then come back to it 3 years later and expect to 'just finish it off in an afternoon) The han...

routing of cable - starter to relay

Could a kind person who has NOT ditched the starter motor on their 500 describe to me the precise routing of the cable from the starter to the relay. It all looks very close to the chain and sprocket and I would like it to be correct. I am making up new cables so can route it how I like. As an aside...

colour wiring diagram

This web site has a brilliant colour wiring diagram and was curious if anyone has actually used it in whole or partially and can confirm it is correct.(500 early version) The one in my manual is practically unreadable (which is I suspect why some one went to the trouble of doing this one) so I canno...

Re: Plain bearing failure

For what its worth that crank looked like my 500 crank I bought in bits. NLM ground the crank down and fitted a new bush in the ring thing. I'm sure fitting a 'proper' bearing is the best way but it seemed a bit pricey when I inquired. I cannot recall the exact price but it was not unreasonable and ...

bearing codes

Just about to order new bearings for the 500 gearbox and discovered a code I do not understand in the parts book. On the mainshaft there is a bearing (part no 59) That is listed as a 63-32-45/c3 bearing. (No its not a 6332 its the wrong size!) I have tried to google this bearing code with no success...

Hi Leighton
I only have a 0-25 micrometer so I had to use the digital caliper. One leg is 34.97 the other 34.96. Lets call it a 35mm fork!
Hopefully I can still pop over sometime with a camera.
Best regards

Thanks Paul. I was working with the 3 1/2 gearbox drawing which was different. Thanks for the link it makes more sense when you look at the diagram. I agree about the bodge element of it as I have not seen an arrangement like this before. Cases covers cylinders etc went to the vapour blast man yeste...

Thats brilliant, thanks. Jenny kindly let me photograph her 3 1/2 which proved to be a useful exercise in piecing together where things should/could go. A look at a 500 will be equally useful.
Many thanks

gear shaft bearings

Hi I was doing a dry run of all the bits in a box against a parts manual I have and stumbled across a bit of a question. The exploded manual shows a 6 speed box and the shaft going through a ball bearing at each end (which sits in the two crank halves). My shaft is a 5 speed and have what look like ...

Thanks Paul for module comment. One of the reasons for posting was for the informed to point out stuff I got wrong. As mentioned in my photo post I did not strip the machine down my self (I had boxes of bits) and th epublished documents are only of use up to a point. All feel free to add comments! b...
