Re: petrol
My '79 500S has been burning unleaded for 31 years. If something was going to fail it'd done so by now I think!

Air filters
My Morini came with individual K+Ns so that's how I ran it. After the second set of rubber intakes split I went back to the original airbox because it supports the far end of the carburetor and I haven't split a manifold in about 10 years. So, if you run individual filters make sure to fabricate som...

1981 500 Sport
Congrat's on the find! A really nice 1980 500 Sport, relatively unmolested and 5000 miles on the clock, just sold on Ebay for a little more than $2800.00. That seems like a fair deal to me. Moto Morinis were never really popular so they haven't ridden the nostalgia wave of the last few years. Then, ...

"Park"
Don't feel bad, I'd never heard of parking lights on a motorcycle until I got my Morini. I thought I had a charging problem until I figured out the reason the battery was dead in the morning was because I was leaving the parking lights on! Check the flasher unit under the off-side sidecover. It's a ...

Getting plugged in to the Moto Morini Community
Claymore, There are a few places where the worldwide Moto Morini community converges. Among those are North Leicester Motorcycles. Stuart has done as much as anyone out there to keep these old wonders going. Much of my rebuilt Italian engine came from England :D (your right about the smilies :( ): h...

Re: Ok...
Steve, Thanks for the Tip on the Nut. I think I have that covered now. I also have the appropriate circlip pliers. The Puller is what I need now. Anyone out there got one rolling around in their Toolbox that I can use....? Anyone, Bueller? I've heard that KTM uses the same M27 x 1.25 thread on some...

Holly Crap! That Morini is worth $1,150 US dollars??? No, but it's worth £665. The exchange rate (weak Dollar) and the UK market make all the difference. What a result! How did you find out about that? Believe it or not I bought it off ebay. I got the vendors phone number and had a long chat. I al...

Re: Sweet
Thanks for the tire info...I'll be sourcing those next. Will it decline the value of the bike if I take the Original Tires off??? It could be worth considerably less when you learn that 30 year old rubber doesn't have a whole lot of grip! I second the Avon/Bridgestone suggestion, they're both good ...

Are you having trouble with the flywheel nut? I honestly don't recall whether it's a right or left hand thread  but a sharp smack with a mallet on the socket-wrench handle should do it unless it's rusty. Some folks put the bike in gear and have a helper mash the rear brake pedal to keep things...

Claymore, How did I miss this? Another running Morini in the US? :D I'm guessing that by now you've already got the belt changed, drained and inspected the oil, refilled with new, adjusted the valves and listened to her run right? I've got a friend with a 3 1/2 and it sounds sweet indeed. Less top-e...

Unleaded fuel and Morini's
Something to consider is that the most likely problem to occur when unleaded fuel is burned in an incompatible engine is exhaust valve seat erosion. This would cause the valve clearance to close up over time. Since It's relatively easy to whip off the rocker boxes and measure clearance on our Morini...

Unleaded fuel UK vs. US
Thanks for the info, in the US what octane rating is your unleaded, in the UK we run at 95 for normal or regular unleaded going up to about 98 for premium. Robin, All grades of pump gasoline sold for road use are unleaded here, and have been in most areas for about 20 years. Comparing octane is a l...
