Grimica Brake Caliper
Having tried to improve the braking feel of the Grimica calliper fitted to my Mk3 Camel by using an alternative master cylinder, the brake is still horribly wooden and with very little lever movement, so i suspect that the calliper pistons are partially seized and not retracting! Does anyone know if...

500 Camel Mk3 Front brake hose
To try and improve the braking performance on my Camel, I’ve bought a 70’s replica master cylinder with a 14mm piston from RGM Norton (looks similar to the Grimica). Trying to fit it this afternoon, I’ve discovered that the required fitting has a more course thread than the Grimica, so I suppose tha...

Camel, front brake master cylinder diameter
The front brake on my Camel is extremely wooden in feel and I’m contemplating replacing the master cylinder with a small diameter unit to improve this. Can anyone tell me what the standard diameter is?

Re: Sticking throttle
Spot on diagnosis!
The carbs had a sticky deposit on the back side of the slide. Once removed with disc brake cleaner, tightening the spigot and removed most of the slack in the cables, it started first kick, ticked over well and not sticktion!
Thank you Ian, John and Benjy (who I also called).

Sticking throttle
I’ve now spent some quality time in the garage, fiddling on my new (to me) Camel. The list of actions include: Replacing and/or re-routing cables, clutch, speedo, rev counter and throttle. Repositioning front brake hose Fitting the correct carb rubbers and new air filters Fitting knobblies Replacing...

Re: Camel 500 petrol tanks
Well, I’ve gone and done it, and bought a nice late twin shock Camel! I’ll be having a really good look at it tomorrow and get in touch regarding riding groups etc. The potential to get an alloy tank sounds interesting, I’ll have to see how much they cost! Thanks to everyone who has contacted me, it...

Re: Camel 500 petrol tanks
Hi Ian Thanks for your sage words… interesting! I do like a challenge, and there are some good workshops around here that could help out. Do you have any photos of where this has been done or tried? Also, the side panels look quite like 500 road bike ones. Are they the same or different? Finally, wh...

Re: Camel 500 petrol tanks
Hi Jenny Thanks for the welcome and comments on the Camel, and I agree, the earliest version was by far the best looking. Hopefully I’ll get clarification from within the group on tanks, but the alternative would be to get an aluminium one made up, but that would be pretty costly. Living in Rutland,...

Camel 500 petrol tanks
Hi, I’m contemplating buying a late 500 twin shock Camel, however the tank is (in my opinion) rather ugly, and as it’s made of fibre glass, I’m concerned about its safety. I also like fiddling on bikes, so I’m wondering if a 350 or 500 tank (Sport or Strada) could be used instead? Is the Camel frame...
