Re: I took my Tachometer apart, can it be saved?!
It has been a while ago, but I finally got around to fixing my Tachometer. I bought a very rusty Tachometer from a club member, I had no idea whether it would work, but after testing it, the electronics seemed OK, but the mechanism was not great. I bought another Tachometer from Ebay as 'spares or r...

Re: Steering lock
This video explains it well. I drilled a hole where he suggests:

The lock is the same as the VESPA ET3 PRIMAVERA SPRINT RALLY MK1 PE PX P200, for example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154548382718

Re: Ignition Timing
Just a thought re timing marks on the cam pinion and crank pinion. As long as the cam pinion dot aligns with the mark on the crankcase, and the crank keyway aligns with the dot on the case, the position of the marks on the crank pinion dont really matter as long as you can get the belt on and maint...

Re: Ignition Timing
I started this thread because no matter how much I adjusted the ignition timing, I could not get the ignition timing marks to line up. I have discovered the reason for this was that the camshaft sprocket was put on using a different mark. Having set it to the other mark, the timing marks can now be ...

Re: Old worn cambelt
All sorted, no longer needed. I used the old cut belt as a tool similar to the Blue Book, as the teeth were the correct pitch.

Re: Ignition Timing
As I was checking the marks using the old belt which I cut to remove it, I noticed another mark that was made on the pulley. This mark enables the top sprocket mark to line up much more accurately with the mark on the engine casing. I assume that when it was last off, it was lined up with this mark....

Hi, if you mean the rubber mount, it just lifts out?

Re: Old worn cambelt
Thank you, but I want to be able to easily remove the belt several times to set up the valve timing, and ensure that the woodruff key goes into the correct slot. Thanks for the tip, I will use that when I come to put the new belt on when everything is set up.

Old worn cambelt No longer required
A strange request, but I am about to set up my valve timing having removed the bottom sprocket. I have a new belt, but it is very tight to get on and off. As I want to ensure the valve timing is correct, I will probably need to remove the belt a few times.
I will of course cover postage.

Re: Ignition Timing
Thanks, yes, I will set it at that. It was just about self reassurance that everything is OK. I now need to set up the valve timing, using the the correct slot in the sprocket to ensure that it is within 3 degrees tolerance.

Re: Ignition Timing
I have now removed the nut holding on the camshaft. The woodruff key appears to be there, so I will reassemble it. The sprocket is tight on the shaft, and if it is keyed in place, I am happy that it is not moving, and is in the right place, as there is only one slot.

Re: Ignition Timing
Hi, yes it does have the woodruf key, but there was some play. I am however now completely confused (easily done!). When I took the cam belt off, the camshaft sprocket mark was pointing at the TDC mark (top of the case). Both valves were closed. They are now both open, and to get to a position where...
