Re: Gas tank rubber retention ring
An alternative that I have used is an 'o' ring of suitable dimension sourced from ebay. Incidentally, the foam rubber pad(s) that sit under the tank on the frame spine are close enough to those fitted for the same job on the 750/850 Norton Commando and the rubber buffers at the rear corner of the ta...

Re: speedo drive removal
Hi Ollie
I had my wheels done by AC in Yeovil. They did an excellent job of masking everywhere I asked for (including the speedo drive etc etc) and achieved a very good finish. They spectographically analysed the paint on the rim under the tyre to get the 'correct' colour too.

Re: Low compression 3 1/2
Hi Andy Which of the three 3 1/2 did you try? Mine, (closest to the Guzzi stand) has an 'unknown' standard of engine build, so may not be representative. Have you performed a compression check with a tester? There are a standard series of checks that can isolate issues with rings by using a compress...

Re: Bristol Bike Show at the weekend
The Club stand is in the Showerings Pavilion; I understand it is in the same location as last year. I will be there as will my Strada for both days.

Re: Morini Newby - Exhaust Collars
Hi Andy Are you sure that you have all of the parts? The order of assy into the head is gasket then exhaust, then split collets (2 parts like for a valve spring cap) and finally the screw in nut. Cleaning the threads definitely helps as they tend to gather carbon; a right angle scriber works quite w...

Re: heat shield for 350 Sport
Hi
See ATG 386 p5!
I have one of these heat shields in alu-fibre. Fits fine (though I had to shorten it slightly to fit the bend of an aftermarket SS Strada exhaust) and definitely does the job with no signs of any issues after ~1k miles.

Re: Silencers and rubber manifold issues
I had a very similar problem which I eventually managed to correct; it may have a bearing on your issue with carb rubbers... There may be two different profiles of plastic support ring in circulation. My originals were a poor match to the profile of the carb rubber and didn't fully fill the 'trough'...

Re: And still, I remain confused...
I recently helped someone who needed to drain their tank. We drained the lhs using a pipe from the tap spigot into cans without apparent problem. We then connected the hose up to the rhs (reserve) tap and watched for fuel... nothing. Tried cycling the tap positions... still nothing, but there was cl...

Re: Refurbishing carbs, what parts wear
I am getting towards the completion of getting my Strada recommisioned. A PO had fitted a Sachse ignition system; I added new PVL coils, BP7ES plugs, and ultrasonically cleaned the carbs to get it going, though there was still a pronounced stutter at around 4k rpm. The bike appears to be fitted with...

Sachse ignition system lessons
Earlier this year I bought a '78 Strada to satisfy a long term itch. It had had a high number of owners and had been a 'project' prior to my purchasing it. It ran, albeit not too happily, but with the arrogance of a number of rebuilds behind me, I knew I could sort it... It had been fitted with a Sa...

Re: Rear Brake Shoes
Not knowing how old the shoes are in my cast wheel Strada, I bit the bullet and tried the Newfren shoes from Steine Dinse. Before anyone rushes out to buy some... beware! The original brake shoes are a fine casting (diecast?) with pivot point and cam end fittings accurately and well defined; the New...

Re: Rear Brake Shoes
Been looking at M&P. They don't give too much information to give confidence they fit your particular bike. Another alternative is to use Villiers Services brake shoe relining service. Cheaper than M&P too.

Re: Gas Tank vibration rubber isolators
My planned solution, come the day of the requirement, will be to get rubber washers from our local fastener supplier (Wentin fasteners), cut them to size on id and od using a template and then glue them together as a stack to get the correct thickness. Do you have the central steel bush that prevent...
