kickstart lever differences?
Merry Xmas all, I finally got the 501 camel to start, and on the very next set of kicks the bloody kickstart lever broke! it was fatigued at the bottom of the hinge pin and snapped clean off. I see in the parts manual the 350 kanga and 501 have different lever part numbers even though the levers loo...

Re: kanga carb issues
OK, so that is my problem - I have those larger diameter brass tubes on the carb venting to atmosphere! - the perils of putting a bike together without a manual. Surprisingly, it starts and runs very well with all that extra air being sucked in and doesn't run when I block them off. Back to the mixt...

kanga carb issues
I'm finding the 350 X1 has a high idle which is either float height or some other issue that is fuel related. I see in other carb posts mention of a carb balance tube - is the largest of the 3 brass tubes present in the carb bodies for interconnection and not just breathers?. The carbs are original ...

Re: more kanga questions
thanks dom
post from USA is slow to us too, but I just got some parts from India in 15 days! I sold a previous 501 camel to NZ in 2006, I hope you didn't end up with it?!

Re: more kanga questions
thanks steve I put in the bmw shock for a laugh - at least I can get both feet on the ground! Someone has put in the longer 420mm shock and welded pads on the bottom of the centre stand, and made a longer/stronger side stand - all good mods I suppose, but I have the 501 as my tall morini and would p...

Re: more kanga questions
yes there is, but it doesn't tell me the original X1 shock length (unless it is 13.5 inches as first stated - seems too short) or indeed the shock travel, both of which would be helpful when finding a replacement....

more kanga questions
OK, the strada engine is in the kanguro frame and running! I wish I done this 20 years ago, the first ride was very promising...what have i been missing? The first problem is the chain run - the chain is rubbing on the swing arm top and bottom, suggesting the shock maybe too long... anybody care to ...

Re: how much difference between kanguro and strada engine?
thanks for that, it is apparent the difference when you sit them next to each other, and the strange thing is 3 of the heads are the kanga type and 1 is the other type!

Re: how much difference between kanguro and strada engine?
hmmm, i just worked out that new stator I have with no red wire is from the electric start models, so that means i can do a 12v conversion I assume - any one care to recommend an alternate rec/reg - i've not seen what morini used.

Re: how much difference between kanguro and strada engine?
i've found the grading mark on the gilardoni barrels (A), but it is a little awkward to clean the piston tops - can anyone give me a hint as to where the grading mark on the pistons is?

Re: how much difference between kanguro and strada engine?
** OK, a casual check of how far the tappet comes out of the case on full lift gives me around 5.6mm so a E cam seems likely - it is an X1 kanga You can impress the lads down the pub if you have an 'E type' cam. Steve, Ironically, showing up at a pub here on a kanguro get you: "what the ...

Re: how much difference between kanguro and strada engine?
Tom
I hope you have a quick answer for this:
I have a NOS stator, the part number on the box is 460584, but the Ducati stator ONLY has green, white and 2 yellow leads - so it is not the part I'd expect - do you know what model it is for?

Re: how much difference between kanguro and strada engine?
Morini Tom, thanks, this is great stuff!!! So one of my basket case 350 engines is a "S" for sport, and the cam has a small "s"stamped between the cylinder lobes. All my engines have the cap screws under the altenator. I have both gilardoni and cast iron sleeve barrels sets - any...

Re: 501 camel carb jets
thanks, i should spend time going thru the dutch site. I can put together a set of carbs out of parts from all the leftover carb bits I have.
The last problem is the floats - i cannot locate 9.5 g floats in all my NOS dellorto bits - can you give me the number on the float itself?
Phil
