Re: 5th gear whine
Just to follow up on this - the charging circuit shenanigans did end up being a bad earth, as expected. This became immediately apparent when I wiggled the earthing point on the front fairing mount, and next time I pressed the starter button, the passing light flashed... Easily fixed, and I took the...

Re: 5th gear whine
Thanks for all the advice on my various requests for help so far! Quick status update: Timing belt was replaced before I started the engine - which was remarkably painless. Fork oil was drained, flushed, and then refilled with Motul 5W. This has made an amazing difference. The oil that came out was ...

Fork oil level
Hi all, sorry, it's another dreadful newbie question - I've done a reasonable amount of searching, but I'm not sure that I've found the right answer! While I've got the front wheel out of the bike for a tyre change, I'm going to do the fork oil too - and looking in the Marzocchi manual in the downlo...

5th gear whine
Hello all, Having recommissioned the project Dart to a point where it passed an MOT, it's all been pretty straightforward so far. What a lovely engine to work on, at least for the simple stuff that I've done so far anyway. After living with a TRX850 and it's infernally complex five valve head, and a...

Gearbox sprocket removal
This sounds really daft - but is there a knack to getting the gearbox sprocket off? I've removed the nut and washer, but I can't for the life of me get the sprocket off. It's probably just some corrosion which is keeping it in the output shaft, but before I dive in there with a bit of heat, I just w...

Re: Oil pressure check
Have you started it and then put it in gear? Not put it in gear yet while running. I've moved it up and down into first and second just wheeling it around the garage. They both appear to engage OK, so that's a small victory! Although I'm now curious why you asked... are there any things I need to w...

Re: Oil pressure check
Errr, having looked at the wiring diagram, is there actually an oil pressure sensor anywhere? I can find the temperature and level sensors. But no pressure sensor. I suspect I may have answered my own question there - the red light is level, despite the owners manual saying it's pressure?

Oil pressure check
Hello - first post, so please be gentle! I'm recommissioning a Dart that's been off the road for the past decade or so, and hit the first milestone today when it fired up for the first time. I put 2.5l of Motul 10W-40 in there to start with, as that seems to be the accepted wisdom. However, the oil ...

Re: Welcome new forum members - introduce yourself
Hello, as is the custom, a quick intro... I'm Neil, live in the Cambridgeshire Fens, and have just picked up a Dart as a bit of a restoration project. Not going to go completely to town on it - I like bikes to wear their battle scars with pride! No doubt I'll be asking questions as and when things d...
