I have found the front sprocket can get loose on the shaft, which cannot be a good thing. I think it should have a spring washer under the nut, perhaps someone will confirm.

Sounds like petrol in the oil or possibly coolant, if the level has gone up. I have no experience of the former but have seen the latter on my K75S due to the oil /water pump failing. But of course this is an entirely different animal. Let us know what the cause is. Does the oil smell of petrol?

I got a second hand loom a few months ago with a better ignition switch but no key.I gave NLM the number from the front plate of the switch and a key was obtained. Then I got spares cut from it locally. What number is on yours?

Expect to see foamy water/oil in the breather pipes from the rocker covers if it's only been used for short runs once you get the engine doing some distance. And if travelling a fair way on an unfamiliar bike make sure the bolt holding the gear lever pivot is not likely to work loose, as I found it t...

I found that the seals all had the spec numbers embossed on the outer faces so just took the old ones to the local gearbox centre. You can get them from NLM of course and you will probably need one or two seals eg the oil pump one from them anyway. A tight chain would strain a bearing. I have only e...

I am undecided as yet whether to go to this or the Stafford show, my decision may depend on the weather.Consider this a kick up the A. Speaking of which I am glad to see my chimney has not found its way through my garage roof this morning, but there is worse to come I gather. I am off to Crediton in ...

Hi I'll pm you as we won't want to bore folk with old memories of the Ridgeway School. Sounds like there was some wear in the clutch after all.

Bad luck about the clutch-I have read about the clutch bolts working loose in the basket and being a swine to remove but not this. What state were the clutch plates in? Sounds like there must have been some slack or wear to start with or one too many wheelies perhaps! Maybe the centre nut was loose?...

I have a 82 sport, it is fitted with Sito silencers.I know that the jets /atomisers were not as per the quoted spec and maybe need playing with.I cannot recall what they were right now and omitted to make notes at the time I rebuilt the carbs. When will I learn? So the bike seems to run OK but I have...

I found that if the bike has not been run on anything other than short journeys (a bad thing for an engine) there was appreciable mayonnaise in the vent pipes. All reminiscent of when the water pump seals go on a BMWK75. And probably explains rusty left exhaust pipe. I use a pushbike for short journ...

I guess worth trying to blast the oil out with carb cleaner spray or petrol. if you go for the former mind you aim away from any painted bits.
Anyone risked using a dishwasher, normally reserved for cleaning engine cases/cylinder heads etc?

I hope it's 5 as well, 11 is around 108 Nm in real units and for a nut of that size its pretty tight. I do not have any info on this though I recently must have tightened mine up, cannot recall what I did.

I occassionally have to think about it,usually when just starting a ride. More of a problem for me is remembering which indicator controls I have between the Morini and 3 Beemers, each is different, the ones on the R100RS are the best I think. After a long ride, say 1500 miles on holiday I am always s...
