Thanks for that. I already have a hawker battery,it has never let me down. I connect to a trickle charger in winter now and again but it has not been down on charge,so at least part of my generator is working. And soon the other part will too,I hope once the ignition coil is refurbished. I will accep...

starter motor

Forcing myself into the garage this evening rather than basking in the balmy summer sun watching sparrows searching for water etc I decided it's time to remove and renovate the stator, which had only 186ohms on the green wire last time I checked. Having a starter motor which sort of works at least wh...

I have ordered some neodymium magnets to play around with. Well it beats all this sunbathing....
Each is supposed to be capable of lifting 13kg so I expect to find the postman stuck to my letterbox on Monday. I will be wary of passing over manhole covers.

Magnetic oil filtration

Has anyone tried or considered using magnetic oil filtration? I know of this application in bikes with canister filters. I guess the only options would be fitting a rare earth magnet to the filter cover, or the drain plug. Not sure if the presence of such a device within "earshot" of the g...

You need to check again that the ignition timing is about right static. Is fuel flowing correctly? Is it Fresh fuel? Was the cambelt touched? Recheck all the marks associated with timing and valve clearances. Are the carbs really set up correctly? Assume you have made a mistake. My 350 would not star...

I have replaced the indicators on my later model with mini-indicators. Much lighter. I had to have a rear mounting lug re-welded first.I think it had failed due to stress looking at the broken surface of the metal.Rather horrid looking metal at that. The flashing rate was a bit quick, but I swapped ...

Well I have no room in my garage, but if you are able to end me a picture of said bike I might have a re-think, curse that bearing freezer-sometimes used for food storage too.

I have found the front sprocket can get loose on the shaft, which cannot be a good thing. I think it should have a spring washer under the nut, perhaps someone will confirm.

Sounds like petrol in the oil or possibly coolant, if the level has gone up. I have no experience of the former but have seen the latter on my K75S due to the oil /water pump failing. But of course this is an entirely different animal. Let us know what the cause is. Does the oil smell of petrol?

I got a second hand loom a few months ago with a better ignition switch but no key.I gave NLM the number from the front plate of the switch and a key was obtained. Then I got spares cut from it locally. What number is on yours?

Expect to see foamy water/oil in the breather pipes from the rocker covers if it's only been used for short runs once you get the engine doing some distance. And if travelling a fair way on an unfamiliar bike make sure the bolt holding the gear lever pivot is not likely to work loose, as I found it t...

I found that the seals all had the spec numbers embossed on the outer faces so just took the old ones to the local gearbox centre. You can get them from NLM of course and you will probably need one or two seals eg the oil pump one from them anyway. A tight chain would strain a bearing. I have only e...

I am undecided as yet whether to go to this or the Stafford show, my decision may depend on the weather.Consider this a kick up the A. Speaking of which I am glad to see my chimney has not found its way through my garage roof this morning, but there is worse to come I gather. I am off to Crediton in ...
