Re: erosion on head

I agree with George.
Obviously these are the scars of an older accident. If not, the piston and barrel should have the same look and the motor wouldn´t work. If it worked with this head before, keep on running and save the money for other things to come o for something completely different

Re: Brake caliper top bolt and spacer

I supose yor calipers from a 500 SEI are the ones with the plastic cap. The spacers for this triangle calipers have a thickness of 4mm on the upper bolt.

Re: strange brake pad wear

Thanks for input. There was no spacer between the caliper and fork. This is what I was thinking of shimming. Back in the workshop tomorrow and will check further. Then I think you've found the problem. From memory the spacer is 3mm thick approx. I think too, that the thick washers on the engine mou...

Re: More Carburettor Woes! Help1

I´ve done more than 100 000 km with two 501 engines with PHBH 28 (with original 350 airbox, cheap K+N imitations from Luis (imposible with rain!) and Polini airfilters) allways with the same needle position in front and rear carbs. I use 268T atomizer with needle X18 and slides 50 (instead of 40). T...

Re: Strada carbs

Do you have the new white floats? If so have a look at them wether there are some ridges that can jam with the body of the carb bowl.

Re: Gear shaft oil seal

Normaly you can pull it out with 2 wood screws. Mark it first with a fine "Piker" where you want to place the screws. When fitted them, pull with some pliers. That should work (did so the times I tried it)

Re: Stock Air Box questions

I´m still waiting for an original 500 airbox to face that problem and wonder wether it will be easier or even worse with 28 carbs and 501 barrels. The cilinders are about 5 mm lower but the carbs bigger  I would like to use the original airbox in the 500 Frankenstein. If this is a pain, will m...

Re: Oil seal quick help

350 and 500/501 crankshaft right side: 30-40-7 Camshaft right side: 15-24-7 gear changing: 14-22-4 (or 5) sprocket: 20-30-7 Have a look behind the alternator wether the three allen screws that hold the bearing carrier for the right hand crankshaft are loose. If so, this will be considerable oil-leak...

All these things depend on the year of production and if you have in mind to have a 100% original one (quite rare after all these years!). A foto and frame number would help a lot for orientation

Re: Kick starting technique

If I want to be sure that my 501 starts first kick (or second): the two chokes open, one slow kick without ignition, then looking for compresion, ignition on and a firm kick. Then immediatley one choke off, the second after about 2-500m. Starting a 501 by kicking is nearly impossible without looking...

Do you have 12 V on the brown cable entering the regulator with ignition on? If not the regulator won´t work.

Re: Best 31/2 cam for all-round flexibility?

The Strada pistons have a distance of 6 mm from the lowest to the highest points of the upper "heron surface" . This distance is 7 mm with the Sport pistons, what makes more compresion. The pistons for the nicasil cilinders also have these 7 mm (perhaps a bit more?) like the sport ones. fr...

Re: Stator Question

Green and white wire should be longer because they go to the central electic port. The yellow ones have a shorter way to de regulator. I still can´t find a reason why one of the yellow ones is marked.
