Lots of heat makes them easy to remove without damage to the threads on the head. I use a MAP gas kit available from any hardware store or plumbing supply store.

Around here, there are places that will make custom cables for about the same price as off the rack. Takes about a week and they are perfect, or at least exactly to the specs you send them.
