Re: 500 sport marzocchi 35mm fork stanchions

I realise that your post is about 500 stanchions but just in case anyone thinks the Ducati Pantah ones are the same as the 350s I would issue a word of caution. Early 350s with Marzocchi's had a ball valve damper with a longer bush in the bottom of the stanchions. I don't know if the later Marzocchi...

Re: Carburation issue?

Your issue sounds very like atomiser and needle adjustment as I mentioned above. If your bike is running well below 4,000 rpm as you say it's unlikely to be connected to the idle/pilot jet circuit and if it's picking up cleanly from idle then it sounds like the idle/pilot to slide stage is OK otherw...

Re: I bought myself a Moto Morini 31/2

I would change that cambelt immediately ! Simply bearings have Gates Powergrip ones (124L075) at very good prices. You'll get used to the gearbox, it just needs a very positive foot, not brutal but firm. I love mine and have just come in from a great late evening blast.

Re: Carburation issue?

I had a similar issue on my Strada which is now rebuilt with Sport pistons and an L5 cam. I dropped the needles (E17s) to the top notch which more or less cured it. Needles and atomisers were new and correct for a Sport. I think modern fuel caused my issue and weakening the mid range cured it.

Re: Rear shocks

You can peen back the outer alloy lip on the later shocks with the one piece top nut and seal but it's a tricky operation and you really only get one chance to do this as the alloy is brittle and will break easily. I've done it with both 10mm and 9mm types. I got replacement seals from my local bran...

Re: headlight recommendation

Any decent 150mm (6") shell will fit. Try to get a good Cibie concave light unit to fit the shell. Otherwise buy a generic 7" shell such as the Lucas flatback type and fit it with a good quality H4 lens such as a Cibie (if you're very lucky!) or a Hella, Bosch or Wipac type. The choice of ...

Re: 350 swinging arm spindle

My swinging arm spindle was slightly worn. I had it ground down by about 5 thou overall and turned up some undersize bushes in phosphor bronze. I then reamed them to fit the undersize spindle. All good after about 8,000 miles. I grease them every 500 miles with a few strokes of the grease gun.

Re: Headlight Upgrades - Blast from the past

Going back to the subject of headlight upgrades: I've got a Cibie 150mm (6") concave unit in my 1976 Strada. I had a Philips Motovision 35/35w H4 in it which was very good. I then changed the bulb to an Osram 35/35w +90% Nightracer which was noticeably better. Recently I fitted an Agptek H4 LED...

Re: Gas tank rubber retention ring

I've used Hoover vacuum cleaner rubber drive belt rings for years. They do the job on my Strada and seem to last quite well. The one currently on my bike has been there about 5 years and is still good. Your local vacuum cleaner spares stockist should be able to sort you out with one.

Re: Clunky Forks on early Strada

Hi Norbert, according to the Harglo (British importers) blue workshop manual the Paoli stanchions were 62 cms long and there were 2 versions of the Marzocchi stanchions, both 65 cms long. The earlier Marzocchi's had lower internal bushes 5 cms long and the later Marzocchi's bushes were 2 cms long. M...

Re: Clunky Forks on early Strada

My top nuts are coarse 1.5mm thread. That's the same pitch as the top nuts in my 250 Benelli which is a drum brake model with Marzocchi's. The Paoli dampers in the parts book look quite different and don't have the 'drum' on top.

Re: Clunky Forks on early Strada

I've seen your photos of the dampers with the 'drum' on top containing a ball valve and a single plastic seal ring on the piston. Mine are identical to that. My yokes are definitely Marzocchi and I'm pretty sure the fork legs were never changed.

Re: Clunky Forks on early Strada

My dampers do have ball valves on the top but I'm certain they're Marzocchi's. The yokes say Marzocchi and the top one doesn't have the rubber mounts for the bars as Paoli's do. My friend has a Strada with Paoli's and his are different. My forks have spring guides and preload spacers which the parts...

Preload spacers on early Marzocchi's

Does anyone know the length of the standard preload spacers on the Marzocchi forks in a 1975 Strada please?
I've mislaid mine and need to make a pair. Many thanks.
