Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
Thank you harrymuffin. There is a contact in heavy jet plane maintenance so such bearing modifications may be feasible. I'll pass this on to the ones with the knowledge. I may be interested in following up with your vintage bearings stockist especially if they have some modified stock on hand, but w...

Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
Thanks mickey moto, a great help. I should have personally checked the manuals again - that 0.05-0.055mm translates to around 2 thousandth inch; which is what the old engineer works in from doing old British bikes. Harglo manual still confuses and lists piston clearance at gudgeon pin height as doub...

Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
Thank you ever so much Paul, it's just brilliant to have such information available. I will pass it onto the engineer doing the work as he was wanting specifics and will understand the detail more than I. He has a quite a collection of lathes and mills including a recent purchase which will precisio...

Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
Well, this didnt work out well. I was planning to get some photos to put up, but shortly after the crankcase was split we have gone into severe covid lockdown, and now there is not access to lots of trades for a month or who knows when. Meanwhile, it seems it would be prudent while the cases are spl...

Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
I dropped by his workshop yesterday (reckon it is an essential service reason in the current restrictions) and was told the bike had been sworn at again in proper Maltese. Crankcases are now split and further damage reports to follow. I will get pics on the weekend. That flywheel shaft sure was rust...

Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
It is time I added an update on the "Red Rust Heap "500 progress, as the engine work has finally begun and I may be begging for sources for some parts. Disclaimer here - I am quite a novice mechanic, so am relying on what I am seeing and being told by the guy doing the work. I will really ...

Re: Rectangular Idiot Lights.
A further suggestion and an old school tip I was given was scrubbing their coloured faces with a toothbrush and toothpaste which cleans and polishes them. Plus scrubbing with the toothbrush and WD40 which oils and restores the plastic. Between toothpaste and WD40 mine came up a treat after 15minutes...

Re: Nuovaray ignition parts
Sorry, I've only just noticed your latest message..... Thanks for the update, have you taken the plunge yet??[/quote] Hi Andy. The Nuovaray are 80 euro each, 160 the pair. They don't have a connection for the electronic tacho, but have 2 versions - one for the black pickup (so you don't need add a d...

Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction
No worries re the sidetrack Canuck750. I'll be happy if this project ends up looking even half as good as your 500. I like your flatter handlebars compared to the higher version on mine. Which bars are they? Yes, it is a US import that ended up down here. And Hi rossguzzi, love your Camel by the way...

1980 500W first time project introduction
Hi all, It's time I stopped lurking so much and introduced my first project bike, which will join my 350 K2 as a second Morini for me to ride. I am the process of working with a semiretired classic motorcycle engineer on restoring a 1980 500W fondly called the "red rust heap" up till now. ...

Re: Nuovaray ignition parts
Hi Andy,
I too have been trying to contact Nuovaray about Morini 350 replacement transducers, and have been told by someone else in Italy the holidays are until the end of August. I hope they will be contactable after then.....
Cheers,
Fiona 1986 K2 350cc

Steering head bearing cones
Hi all. Would anyone have some old used steering head bearing cones (part 19.02.21) for 350 or 500 v twins they would be willing to sell. Bit rusty or notchy ok as I have access to a machinist who has refurbished a steering head bearing set for me. However I need cones to make a second set for my ot...
