Re: Piston Rings
It makes no difference whether the bore is machined with a taper or not. As you would expect on ANY engine the bore will always wear tapered, so if gapping on a used bore then gap at the least used part of the cylinder the bottom. You only gap rings at the top if it is a new bore, but it won't make ...

Re: Piston Rings
If you can only get the 62.4 rings then you could simply 'gap' them to your worn bore diameter, gapping should be done with the rings at the bottom of the bore. Even with correct sized rings gapping would still need to be carried out, no gap results either in very quickly worn bore or broken rings.

Re: Jetting- L5 and 2+2 cam
From purely experimental reasons I see your logic in what you are doing. From purely riding expererience on the road I am fuddled. Narrow power band, nothing below 6-7000revs maximmum power up above 10,000 with an already over loaded big ends, constant changing gear as you come off the cam, you must...

Re: oil leak on rotorino seal
It is possible that when you fit a new seal the lip is being damaged by the sharpeness of the camshaft shoulder where it reduces down to the male thread. If you look in the blue book there is a list of sleeves that are disirable for fitting to various shafts when assembling the engine or renewing se...

Re: M7 nylon insert nuts DIN982
The general tensile rating of all metric nuts and bolts are 8.8 tonnes and regarded as high tensile, you can get lower tensile nuts and bolts at 4.7tonnes but these are used on greenhouses and other tat from china. If you are trying to buy the nuts for your rocker gear then these HT nuts will suffic...
Re: Rotor
Yes you can. The generator output won't be as high as the 500 160w to 90w unless it is off a K2 140w. Regarding the ignition timing, then simply mark the 500 firing point on the flywheel. If you know the degrees you want, then it will be easier to use radians from the TDC mark, just pinch the missus...
Re: new toy
I had a simlar problem and only heat from a big brazing torch would get enough heat into the head. Stillsons with head in a vice was the only way I could get the nut to move, tighten first then anti clockwise. Made new ones in phosphore bromze, don't use stainless steel as aluminium and s.s will fre...

Micky Moto.
Only 'Bikers' travel on motorways, motorcyclists travel on roads that require intelligence, experience and skill. Even so, if on a motorway you should be going faster that the county lines delivery driver and your intensions should be indicative of your positioning and speed on the road.

I have never had winkers on any of my motorcycles that were built before the cut off date in the mid eighties. I did have to point out to an over zealous mechanic that the bike was made in 1984 and in the end he had to get the MOT bible out. Why have winkers when you have got arms?

The later transducers are made for either 350 or 500's, bt the only difference is a slight difference in advance curve by using a differnt resister. You can use either type as a pair on any size engine as long as you set the full advance for the particular machine. I ran 350 transducers on a 507 eng...

Try Keihan in Redditch, their silencers and exhaust systems are much better made with welding seams paticularly neat, with no after dressing needed. You can if you ask see your system being made.

Regarding the steering head bicycle head bearings, why do you not convert to taper head bearings, better steering and less head shake?

Never had problems running a 1000 Vincent on 100% methanol or a Velo KTT MK1 both racing machines or general over the counter Cleveland Discol which was around 30% alchohol on the road, they all went must faster and the road cars and bikes much smoother. Rubber fuel pipes were what you got from Vale...

Re: special tool MOR-T4
This is the tool I made to remove the camshaft pulley. The outer bolts are allen bolts 10mm and 70mm between centres, they are not screwed into the bar which you can make from whatever you have handy eg 10 x 25. The 'caps' are reduced in height to allow to fit behind the pulley 5mm and are then redu...
