Tour d'ecosse

Post by MickeyMoto »

A quick trip further north.

Rain, sun, cloud. Good riding in the Highlands plus the bonus of the Borders.
5,000 plus miles on the clock and the only fault is the plug on the header fell out on the M90.

The handling is just superb, far better than me. Fuel economy is pushingn50 on E5.

The only drawback is range. On the way home yesterday I deliberately ran it dry. 45 miles with the fuel light on. The fuel pump is at the back so it ran out going down hill. 130 miles between stops is the norm. I carry a 2 litre container which, apart from yesterday, I have not used yet.

When I rode the GranpassoR from the factory the reserve light came on after 100 miles (160km) from filling the tank up - so after about 10/12 litres had been used (we were two up and this was in 2017). Remember that this bike uses the same tank design as the 'ordinary' (can I describe the Granpasso as an ordinary machine - probably not, but that's another thread on a different topic page) bike, which has a claimed 27 litre capacity; mine normally gives 160 miles (240km) to reserve...

I queried this back at the factory and was told that they had raised the indicator float switch to avoid owners running dry and compromising the fuel pump operation. So we could conclude that the factory are just being cautious! AS my brother in law observes, it's normal to stop for a comfort break before needing to stop for fuel, and he stops every 100 miles or so now, and he runs a BMW up in Scotland!

Good riding

Chris,

It appears there is no constant. I have heard of one running out after 10 miles on reserve. My old Corsaro would go exactly 20 miles from fuel light to push. I wonder if the Corsaro tank would fit? Being 17 litres would give 30 miles more.

Mike;

Maybe we meet up at Motohubs' open day (9th October) and compare fittings... It's a reason to be there, apart from all the fun of the fair! It's also a decent mid-way point with (possibly) free coffee

Good riding,
