Hello there
there is a nice 1960 Tresette Sprint in Sydney. Would be interested in comments as to whether it is a genuine Sprint and if it has all the correct bits. It is a stunning little bike.
Frame number G*43316*

Ye gods, that's so beautiful I'd buy it if it was a Puch Maxi in drag!

Hi,
Any Sprint I've seen has had both and engine and frame number starting "TS" (though I don't think the actual numbers match?). The other thing is that the barrel should have a star stamped into it, on the base flange, on the right hand side. The petrol tank should have two taps too, when the ordinary Tresette has just one.

PS. I just blew up one of those photos and it looks like the engine number has been filed/polished off? It should be stamped on clearly, on that raised portion, which runs vertically on the front on the left had side crank case, by the engine plate (if that makes sense?). I'd ask what that engine number is?

Thanks for the comments Pete
The tank does have two fuel taps.
I will try to find out the engine number
I found some info on the internet that suggested that the late Sprints had frame numbers beginning with G but I can't verify that.
Bike is coming up for auction. hard to put a value on it here in Australia as the market is so shallow.
Any comments on what it might be worth in UK????

Engine number is advised to be 532

My 175GT has matching frame and engine numbers, with "GT" clearly stamped as the prefix and so do the other examples I've seen. The actual numerical part of the frame/engine numbers are all five digits long I think.
A letter "G" on the crankcases is seen as desirable for race use as these are supposed to be the stronger form of the Tresette case with a reinforcing rib. The Turismo and GT lack this rib, but the Settebello does have it, the cases otherwise seeming to be the same.

Hi Paul
is it possible that the G in the frame number indicates the stronger cases?
Bike is going to auction next week, at the right price I am keen.
