Wheel nut torque

Post by 3potjohn »

What do folk use for rear wheel spindle nut torque? On the Coguaro I have had some issue getting the spindle to pinch up in the swing arm. I cleaned all the spacer surfaces. Assuming these are all present and correct it (!) it seems there is a risk of the spindle not being as well fixed in its slots as I would like ( i.e you can just about see movement if you lean on the adjusters )at around 30Nm and only seems good at around 38 to 40 Nm.
I am more used to taper roller wheel bearings on beemers where one should not over tighten the spindle. My Sport has a slightly different arrangement and I have not had the same problem.

Hi, from memory there are 3 spacers plus a thick washer under the spindle nut on the brake side and a single spacer on the drive side.
No taper rollers, so nice and tight within reason.
The swinging arm ends aren't always perfect and may require pinching up or springing apart when fitting the wheel.

The Camel 501 has a better quality and more practical QD rear wheel that will fit straight in.

Have fun, Ian
