Kick Start replacement...aftermarket?

Hello everyone,
The kickstart on my 81' Camel snapped off this past weekend. Is there a strong aftermarket replacement? Or should I peruse the usual second hand avenues?
Thanks,
Ben

I think second hand is your only choice Ben. Where did it snap? any chance it can be repaired?

Cheers,

Kamel.

If the same as the Kanguro type there are a few on eBay.de. How unusual is a broken kickstart on these bikes?

To be honest, the standard kick starters are quite solid. I do not recall reading about broken kick-start levers on this forum. There is very little pressure required, unlike a Velocette single!

I have to ask if it was standard or from another manufacturer?

I tried looking at the photo in the other post but was too grainy to see.

Can you post a pic of the broken one, please.

Thanks.

Looks like a standard lever to me.

Yes, same as that on my 81 Sport.

Thanks for the replies everyone! This appears to be the original kick unit. From what I can tell, from discoloration in the seam, is that there was a prior stress crack. My friends leg finally snapped it (British singles kicker instinct). The guy I got the Camel from appears to have a spare kicker. Fingers crossed. I may have the damaged unit welded up in the meantime... a fairly clean break.... Ben

I would definitely have it welded up and keep as a spare.

Hi, all kick starts fitted to Camels can fail, the alloy levers break like in your photo and both types of steel kick start can snap at the pivot pin on the mounting boss.
Welding the break on alloy lever will not last long and really not worth the effort/expense.
The 350/500 road bikes use the same alloy lever.
Or you could use the steel lever from an Aermacchi/Harley 350, it fits the mounting boss yet needs a modified pivot pin and the lever will need heating and bending in two directions to replicate the shape of the Morini's alloy lever

Good luck, Ian

Thanks for the tips Ian! Aermacchi 350 levers aren't that hard to find...Ben

Thanks for the info Ian. I had presumed they are steel. What a very strange idea to use alloy. My Boyer equipped Camel kicks back quite regularly, so I need to be careful...
