Hi ,
I need a new swinging arm spindle for a MK2 1985 Camel.
Does anyone know if this is a unique part or also found on another bike?
It seems Mdina Italy still have to catalogue all their stock a cross reference to another bike could help.

Thanks

Hi Steve, the part number for the 501 Camel spindle is 14.04.38 which is the same spindle (and part number) for the later Kanguro, New York and Excalibur.
Just checked and Midina have them in stock.
Also the twin shock 500 Camels use the same spindle as the 500 road Morinis.
Have fun and thanks again, Ian

Just curious, I might need a spindle and bush set so found this thread. Looking at the bush in the pick ( https://www.mdinaitalia.co.uk/M320210BRONZE.html ) it has a shoulder, but I am sure the bushes in my swingarm don`t ??
So am I missing something here ?
I looked up the part numbers (on the Mdina site) from the 500 parts book for a spindle and bushes, but there was no listings. Searched and found this thread.
Cheers.
MK 1 Camel.

Hi Ross, the shoulder bush and bolt type spindle are used on the later mono shock and custom Morinis.
The twin shock 500 Camel uses the same spindle 14.04.33 and bush 25.02.12 arrangement as the road 500.
Have fun, Ian

Thanks Ian, I was not reading your original post correctly.
So where can I get a new one from. I emailed Soren in Sweden but hasn't replied.
I had also received info about plastic bushes from a member, but must have deleted it from inbox. Would be good to get that info again if anyone has it.
Cheers.

Mdina should have the parts and unless it's badly worn you should be able to use your spindle with new bushes reamed to fit.

Nothing comes up on Mdina's site using the part numbers yet found this and it is probably best to contact Mdina to check.

Enjoy the quest, take care, Ian

Hi Ross,

in most cases the problem is not the bushes but the worn spindle itself. Then you can try the following:
give the spindle a 1/4 or 1/2 turn after loosening the big nut. That can do for another 10k miles or even more

I think this is the link for the standard not oversize bush at Mdina - I bought some a short time ago but don't know if they fit a camel - Duncan

There was talk a while ago where bushes made of PTFE were mentioned. Don’t know any more but it may be a solution

Ok, thanks for the replys. Good info.
Looks like this for the spindle https://www.mdinaitalia.co.uk/M140429.html
This for the bushes https://www.mdinaitalia.co.uk/M20864.html
I hope they fit together. I have sent an email, but may send another asking this question.
Here is mine. Im sure my bushes are steel.

They do look like the original steel bushes which don't last long.

I didn't know the originals were steel. Why would they make them out of steel ?
I guess that was the practise of the day.

Original bushes were sintered iron. The club did do PB bushes but they would last the same legth of time as originals. The spindels would only wear on one side owing to the production of grinding paste. The spindels are 18mm diameter and the wear is usually around 0.5mm so you can use the original spindel by turning down to 17.5mm which will not impair the chance of shearing. I would then obtain Igus M250 plasitic bushes manufactured for no lubrication situations (farmers machinery) but water helps. These spindels are made from a plastic that has a low hydroscopic take up unlike nylon variations. I used to do this as a refurbishment and my own daily bike had around 35,000 miles with no sign of wear and no movement. The bushes idealy should be fitted tight in the trunions to close the bore down so the spindels should also be tight on initial fitting, the theory being that a very light deposit from the bush coats the spindel and so effectively you have plastic rubbing on plastic once it is bedded in. No arsing about with reamers etc, fit and forget solution. Did quite a few for people once a time aand have just done for someone.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Here is the website for the M250 sleeve bearings https://www.igus.co.uk/product/68 I don't know the correct dimensions at this stage, I was looking for the site as I was curious. I'll measure up my late Kanguro swinging arm bushes tomorrow and see if there's a likely fit for one of the permutations. They're reasonably priced (5.04 GBP for MFM-1824-30, which seem to be the dimensions 18mm inside diameter, 24mm outside dimension, 30mm long), which is my initial guess for what might well suit.
