Camel Marzocchi`s

Post by rossguzzi »

I have looked everywhere, but cant seem to find what model Marzocchi`s are on the mk1 Camel. I need front seals and rear rebuild kits. I know the guys that took over NLM might have them, but I can't work out how to find them on there site. An email to them did not prove successful either.
Cheers.

Hi, 38mm front fork seals should be easy to get locally and just search the forum for a manual, details etc of the MX 580 rear shocks.

Have fun, Ian

Thanks for the info.
My shock looks slightly different to the MX580. It has the remote reservoir but no preload for the spring. The reservoir is closer to the shock body too. Will try to post a pic.
Perhaps it has same internals.

The forks are Marzocchi Piffero 38 mm. The rear shocks are Marzocchi AG4 and not the MX580!

Thank You Angelo63.
With some research it seams the shocks do use the same internals. I hope to get a rebuild kit for mine as one is binding a bit.
Cheers !

Hi, Mk1 Camel MX580 shocks have no pre-load adjustment as illustrated in the MX580 maintenance manual.

Marzocchi AG4/MX580 shocks use the same repair kit, so not a problem.

Look at the MX580 manual, parts 43-02 and 43-03 are the pre-load adjustment. The AG4 has not this parts and it has a different shape, too.

Hi Angelo, thanks for posting the AG4 & MX580 photos.

All my Camel shocks have MX580 decals and look exactly like those in your photo of AG4 (gold) shocks.

The red pair with the adjustable pre-load look the same as the illustrations in the MX580 maintenance manual.

This is all very confusing; do your AG4 shocks have MX580 decals?

Take care, Ian

Hi Ross, it appears that your Mk1 Camel originality fetish is gathering momentum.

I also came across the original sticker from my forks which I removed in the 1980s when I painted the sliders.
This was the only decal and located on the lower left slider.

Trust this helps, enjoy the quest, Ian

Yes, the sticker of the fork is correct. It is the Marzocchi "Piffero", that means fife, the musical instrument.
This one.

Brilliant ! I have 2 of the front fork stickers coming, but have not seen any of the rear ones for sale.

My forks have just the one sticker also. Tempted to put one each side  Hope no one notices.

Thanks for the fork manuel. THey are a bit vague on how much oil to refill. The chart does not make sense to me. Also they say fill to 130 mm from top with fork closed ? Does this mean compressed without spring in the upright position ?? That's my best guess.

Thanks again for your help :D

Cheers.
