That is the original ignition (red pickup). As said, look on the Dutch site, where there is lots of tech info: http://www.motomoriniclub.nl/tech.html
Lots of users claim that it is as good as 'modern' replacements, with the benefit that no battery is needed. New pickups are available, transducers can be home-made or possibly units from Vespa scooters used. Its all on the Dutch site.

As Ming says above the pick up is the standard one. You may still have replacement or upgraded transducers under the tank though? With the bike sounding like you have it running already and no mention of poor starting I'd say you have a good 'un there. Don't upgrade what ain't broke, I say. Looking forward to full pics of the bike too. The front mudguard may be suffering from too much sun maybe? Replacement genuine items are rare but you'll be able to fit a guard from another bike easily enough. Oh yes, the front brake...did no one tell you that you should never expect it to be impressive? Likewise stoppies are out of the question too, good enough for steep downhills in soppy wet mud of course. :)

Hmm, it did take quite a few kicks to get it going. But to be fair, I was wearing thongs....flip flops .... Japanese safety boots :) Am impressed with the compression.
Will check under the tank tomorrow for transducers.
I'm hoping to get my wife to help my downsize pics.
I will post plenty ! :D
One more thing, I hadn't read anything about air filters. I hope they are still available.

Don't sweat it, if you have the original airbox and filters, they are washable elements. Just don't use trichloretheylene or suchlike, petrol is fine to wash them. Also don't ask me how I know this.

Normally it should be written on the pick-up itself: in italian and english.
The red pick-up should work with the black transducer no. 323934.
The black pick-up works with the grey transducer no. 323974
These specs are valid only for the 500cc engine, because of the correct regulation of ignition.

Front guard is a bit sad. Can these be resurrected ?

That is indeed a great looking bike! The front mudguard looks to have sagged a little, maybe it is sun damaged hence the crumbly looking plastic? Sorry but I don't know of any method of restoring them. I would say that the original finish on that is too good to spoil though. Hope you aren't thinking of restoration but that is your business alone :) I'd go for the conserve, fettle, repair and ride approach with it. Very original looking too.

Not sure if it's just my eyes but is the locknut missing from the right side of the swing arm spindle?

Hi Steve,
Good catch. It is missing. Will have to find one before I ride it again. I've only gone around the block once. Don't know how long it's been missing for. Swingarm didn't feel like it had excess play.
Thanks.

Hi, the Camel front guard is a Stilmotor A203 and one made by CP France (CP101) is an exact copy.
You could also have a look at the Vintage UFO ME08007W which readily available.
Hope this helps, Ian

That's good info Ian, thanks. I missed the rear guard that Tom in Holland sold-would have really liked that!
