Kanguro swing arm pivot bolt removal

Post by moriniuk »

Little bit of help required please.

I'm trying to remove the swing arm pivot bolt from what I think is a Kanguro X1.

It's a mono shock rear end with a front drum brake.

I've loosened the nuts from each side.

I've given it a gentle tap but it seems to be quite tight.

The swing arm is moving with the shock removed.

Before I hit it any harder is there something else that I should know or am I just not trying hard enough?

Thanks.

I've just seen the previous thread regarding this subject further down.

I'll have another go at it. )

Hi Moriniuk,
I too have an X model and have recently been throught the swing arm removal struggle. Basically the right hand side of the frame is threaded and the pivot screws out from the left hand side. Its a normal right hand thread, but if the nut on the left hand side has already come off your chances of screwing it out are slim. We managed to tig a nut onto the shaft and unscrewed about half a dozen turns but all it was doing was forcing the frame rails apart and ended up putting a disc cutter through it. the spindle had corroded in the middle of the bushes and there was no way it was coming out by unscrewing.
The good news is NLM do a stainless replacement thats certainly cheaper than getting a one off machined.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

It isn't coming out, but luckily the frame is a scrapper, so it can be butchered.

I'd rather preserve the swing arm.

Seems strange because the swing arm is moving ok and the thread area on both sides of the splindle don't look corroded.

I tried using a centre punch to unscrew it but failed.

Not one of the better Morini design points.
