Morini's seem to be a bit touchy on air filters and exhausts, I suspect you need to go
up 2 possibly more sizes on main jets.

Don't forget that fueling problems are always caused by ignition.

Also that ignition problems are always caused by fuelling.

Sorted.

The dart carbs proved it was a carb issue, AND gave me extra incentive as they showed that the bike was a total beauty.

So after lots (and I do mean LOTS) of swopping about, finally narrowed it down to one main jet that although looking good when held upto the light next to the other, actually needed a gentle poke with a wire strand.

I am still amazed that the invisible dried residue on the inside of ONE main jet could affect the performance of both cylinders.

The other twin cylinder engine bikes I have will run on one cylinder.

Anyway, it goes great and I love it.

Thanks for listening and the encouragement.

A bike that comes into my workshop will usually get its carbs ultrasonically cleaned.

Starting with carbs as clean as possible really tends to help!

......and my next question is.......

Whats the deal with the rear brake disc. Is it chrome ? , seems to be very hard and despite trying different pads, very smooth, In fact i can see zero wear. Is it just an ´80´s thing? like the chrome discs on old jap bikes. Is a better stoping effect possible?

The front is totally different. Works well and shows wear i.e.friction. Looks like a different material.

If you have a set of main jets 1 or 2 sizes up on the ones you have in try those,
I think the silencers are making it run weak at the top end.

I picked up a running x2 for parts and have been thinking about mounting the smaller tank.

I am hoping to carefully remove and modify the X3 tank bracket so it can remain an option. The x3 frame already has the brackets for the x2 tank mounts.

Clearly i can´t keep the massive x3 battery/bracket with the x2 tank.

Do the x2´s just have a smaller set up in a similar place ? Unfortunately my x2 spares bike has no battery or regulator.

Can i run the bike without a battery ? It says very clearly on the regulator don´t disconect the battery when the engine is running.

Did it.

Ended up just putting in a smaller battery.

Nothing irreversible.

Also raised the forks and lowered the shock. Mrs P finds the whole thing more manageable.
