This may sound daft to a few of you but I thought that I'd tell you about my recently [re]acquired X3 which I sold to a mate 7 years ago and now have it back... I'm pretty certain that it hadn't been started in all that time.
I changed the cambelt, oil and put some fresh fuel in the tank. The battery is missing so I used jump leads off my BM although as that battery was fairly flat couldn't use the X3's electric start... and kicked away. After a dozen or so swings she sprang in to life. What a lovely sound
Now I just need to work on all the other things that you can probably see wrong or worn out in the pic below. Starting with the missing front brake caliper
