no, it has been reported two posts back, problem solved, no slipping clutch at WOT after cleaning

to be replaced by "misfire at high RPM and WOT".
will clean carbs first and report results

took out the dental torture tools and replaced all gaskets, rubbers, atomizers, needles and floatvalves
although the bike started, idled and ran reasonably well, except for WOT, atomizers (T262) and needles (X1) were in a very bad condition.
so all have been replaced.

this hole in the rear carburettor wasn't plugged off as should have been.
the front carb had it plugged and according to all manuals, drawings and schematics I believe the hole should be plugged
it also confirms the observation of not being very responsive to the idle-mixture adjusting screw.
put some JB-weld on/in and rebuilt carb

testride scheduled for thursday

PHBH 26
slide 40
idle jet: 54
main jet: 130
other jet 48
atomizer: T264
needle: X23
floatvalve 200

have sets of T262 and X1 on stock.

the jetting is not standard, as is the exhaust.
appointment with startrick has been made

solved, but in a totally different way as thought
after replacing all parts, rubbers, gaskets and balancing carbs, in the first testrun the misfire was still very much present,
present at all revs > 4500 rpm and >3/4 throttle. (indeed it hasn't improved)

checked all parts of the ignition system and even contemplated in reverting to the original unit :(
however, this mornig I changed the ignition for a spare unit and went for a testrun.
all was well for the first mile and then the misfire presented itself again and became more serious during the run.

last conclusion: it could be heat-related. so changed the original spark plugs (ND W20ep-u) for a set of NGK BPR7ES
although the heatrange isn't very different it completely solved the misfire.

next problem: in 5th gear the bike doesn't reach max revs, it stops at 6500~6900 rpm
Startrick is scheduled for next week.

slowly improving, the airbox is a pita when swapping needles.
the exhaust doesn't improve power.
we did a full day of testing together with the joungest son and a very enjoyable day indeed

we ended with:
PHBH 26
slide 40
idle jet: 54
main jet: 120
other jet 48
atomizer: T268
needle: X40
floatvalve 200

16 months have passed since last post, bike is running fine without major modifications. and used as the daily ride.
fitted new chain and sprockets, 14/44 and 520. the rear sprocket could be 45 or 46 as the engine does not reach max revs in top gear
still 152 km/h has been reached on the german autobahn.

the bike holds itself well in a gaggle of more modern ones, but you'll need all the gears and revs to keep up. on secondary roads only.
visiting the ducati monthly club meet, of course with the 500

well, did some work on the carburation with Starttrick from Terborg. When used regularly she's an easy starter. if left over for two weeks you'll need two ~three kicks. Choke should be off fairly quickly but then you have to be carefull at the first light. Pulling away cold and no-choke can be tricky. After one mile all is fine.
