.Can some kind soul measure a component for me, if so? Simple job.
Interesting issue, and always learning: the Morini 350 and 5 speed 500 had a 32 tooth first gear, that meshes with the kickstart cog to turn the engine over. Despite being the same diameter, there were two part numbers for what must be the same diameter kickstart cog: 350=14 04 07, 500/5= 14 04 25.
Now the 501/507 motor, the New York and final Camels had a 29 tooth first gear, smaller diameter, so the kickstart cog has to be 3-4mm larger diameter to mesh with this smaller gearbox first gear. It has yet another part number 14 04 32.
Can someone measure this for me, as NLM must have filed the 350/500 item under the wrong (later) part number, and Ive just bought it at vast expense.

Hi Simon
I may be able to help on this one, but give me a day or two to remember where the relevant parts might be.

My Coguaro motor is currently in one piece, and long may it stay that way.Well one can hope. So will await your answer for the files.
Perhaps a Honda 300 would be a wiser choice!

Hi Simon, have just counted the teeth on a 500 5 Speed & 500 6 Speed Camel engine which confirms the data in the Blue Manual & 500/501 Camel handbooks.

500 5 Speed and 250 single 1st gear 29 teeth (18.02.48) Kick start gear 23 teeth (14.04.25)

500 and 501 6 Speed 1st gear 31 teeth (18.02.57) Kick start gear 19 teeth (14.04.36)

Trust this helps, have fun, Ian

It does indeed help Ian thank you!!!
Andrew Mdina has confirmed what youve written and the M140425 is the bigger diameter, and yet what he had in stock as a 6 speed 501 kickstart cog (140436) is smaller.
I couldnt find any of that data in the Blue book when I looked; a gearbox technical-diagram and all the ratios yes but not no. of teeth,

I have taken the left hand cover off an Excalibur 507 engine this afternoon - it is ear marked to go in my 3 1/2 in due course. As others have already reported, the kickstart gear has 19 teeth and measures 52.9mm diameter. I had an old 350 equivalent to hand. This has 20 teeth and measures 52.0mm across - with rather tired old callipers. I tried it in place of the correct gear and it appears to mesh ok. I think you could use a 350 gear instead of a 507 gear if stuck - the kickstart ratio would be slightly different but if you’re stuck this might be worth trying. Good luck!

23 teeth: 500 5 gear and 250T
20 teeth: 350
19 teeth: 500/501 6 gear, only this one has "sharpened" teeth

The rest of the kickstart mecanism is the same
