Running In 478

Post by steve pegg »

Gentlemen,
I have new pistons, rings and a rebore in my 1978 500 Strada. Opinions please on running in technique and Mileage or Kilo's to cover. I am using Millers running in oil. Not wishing to lead any replies but I have come across some varying ideas on this and looking for a definitive answer. Thanks , Steve

just run it hot slowly and don't take it max revs for the first 2000 km's or so... then all should be well
Don't know when you have to change over to regular oil.. never used running in oil

Running in recommendations tend to be based on the least number of warantee claims, not the best long term engine performance.

Avoid constant speed running, keep changing the load.

Do use full throttle, but just for a few seconds then run at a light load for a while. To properly seat the rings, high cylinder pressures are needed.
