Rusty Disc's

Post by markw »

Hi all,

My first post .... owned my sei-v since 1982 & a box of parts that make up a 5 speed 500 for 15 years.

Now found some time to make the bits into a bike & overhaul the sei-v at the same time.

Both bikes have rusty disc's, they look to be plated rather than cast iron. Any one got any guidance on how to clean them up ?

thanks

Take them to a platers that do zinc plating. They chemically strip what is left of the cosmetic chrome put on by Morini and replate in zinc to your bright/coloured requirements. Zinc is sacrificial so although it goes to a dullish grey over time rust does not appear. I have a 500 with zinc plated disc all round done in 1997 and used all year round and good as the day they were done with the rotors still good and polished with no reduction in stopping power. If your choose the chrome plate then have them done properly as chrome is porous which is fine cosmetically(copper which seals the steel then chrome to look nice).
