Discharger????

Post by jeanster »

In the tech help "V-Twin electrical system - Operation and checking" there is reference to using a "discharger" for testing generator. What exactly is this item and where do you get one or how do you make one?
I'm away to sea tomorrow but back in a fortnight hopefully to lots of responses.

Just back from Ulster GP and would love to have my Morini project up and running before the event next year. Definite lack of classics in evidence there.

It's a gas discharge tube normally used for lightning protection. The transparent style seem to have gone out of style, but a Neon bulb (without the current limiting resistor) would probably to a similar job.

I just measure the voltage with a Fluke multimeter, but I can't remember what a normal reading is. I seem to recall 90VAC at idle.

Thanks for that.
Fluke multi eh - nothing but the best.
I'll try that, but'll have to be next month. Might borrow a Fluke from the boat.

Thanks again.

Andy.
