Hi Rob,

Gary (club member) Had some really excellent quality steel reproductions made by his company shapecraft.

They are the best copy of the original series 1 side panels I have seen.

Looking at your video, the bike looks to be more like a 1976 model, although many wear different clothes to those they left the factory in of course.

If you did want to go to the earlier (1975) style rounded sidepanels then I can’t recommend shapecraft’s parts highly enough.

P.s if you wanted to see what your bike would look like with the early style sidepanels then the transitionary model pictured on page 193 of Massimo Clarke’s excellent book MotoMorini Una storia Italiana is pretty close-picture attached:

Many Thanks for that information Gary it is much appreciated. Although the side panels look very nice they are totally different to the ones on my bike strange how they made different styles. I have emailed the company hopefully they might have a pattern they could probably make me one?

Rob,

Mdina Italia have a used RH sidepanel of the same type fitted to your bike.

Mdina recently took over the Morini parts stock from North Leicester Motors.

As I said in my previous post, the angular style side panels and tank as on your bike are more correct for '76/77models. If your bike is a 1975 model then the rounded style which shapecraft make are more correct.

The ones on eBay you found are from the 1980's K models.

But, you will not find rivet counters in the Morini Club, so fit whichever style you like the best.

At least we have found you options for all three styles now.

Best regards,
Tom

I have a spare pair of 2nd gen side panels as my 1980 1FD is fitted with the incorrect early round side panels.

Unfortunately, I can't decide whether to return to original, or keep the older ones.

The newer side panels may have been introduced to cover the electric start solenoid on the right hand side.

The upshot is, I may be able to assist...

Help!

Mike

For Mike,

It wasn't initially to hide the solenoid - the angular panels were introduced 2 years before the electric foot. (1976 vs 1978) and went with the 'new' angular tank. This change occurred when the Sport with drum was superseded by the Sport with wire wheels and disc brake. The yellow bike at the back of your picture has the 1976 on Sport tank and sidepanels that stayed until the K's.
The Strada kept 'round' panels until around 1979 -1980. The Strada may well have got the 'Sport' sidepanels to hide the solenoid, but they were certainly available with rounded panels and electric foot for at least a year.

Regards,
George
