1976 Sport RH side panel

Post by norrie3765 »

Hi All,
I just enjoyed a 100 mile Sunday run on my 1976 3-1/2 sport and on pulling in to the garage i discovered that the Right hand side panel was no longer in my possession, gutted to say the least.
Does anyone out there have a spare for sale or know where i might be able to get a replacement.
Best regards
Bruce

That is a blow. I constantly check the knobs as I ride but they are never loose.
It would be riding back and checking the verges. I lost keys from a fob on a main road and two days later found two glinting in the sun.

Well today I lost a fairly heavy U lock I used to use when leaving my pushbike at work. It went between Devizes and near Warminster from it’s previously secure location under a tent. Hope it just fell harmlessly!
I do not intend to take my own advice and ride back up to search for it.

Hi John, that's unfortunate.
I did take your advise and found the panel at the furthest point from my house, it had been run over at least once and i have spent a bit of time this morning reshaping it so it at least fits to protect the electrics. the image is pre reshape.

'Furthest point from my house' Of course.
'Run over at least once' Of course.
Such is life.

I do have a spare side panel, unfortunately not the same style as yours.

That is a result! I am sure it will be possible to get it about right.

It has more patina now that I’ve beaten back into shape. At least it will be protection for the electrics until I get it finished or replaced.

If you ever travel on the A61 from Leeds to Harrogate you might find my missing left one from about 1994 hiding in a hedge.

I nearly suffered the same on the A5 a few qeeks back. Felt something on my leg and looked down to see a horizontal side panel. Fortunately caught it and had a cable tie to hand to secure it. Hence my recent post on sidepanel knobs!!

I do tend to reach down from time to time to check the knobs are tight. They have sink tap washers under them and so far so good.

I suggest to place a rubber washer under the knob. Doing so, I never lost a side panel  Only kickstarter

Yes, my 500 kickstarter fell off on the M11. Unfortunately, it was a long trip to the next junction to return. It was undamaged on the hard shoulder.
