Moto Morini 3 1/2 wins in a shootout in Spanish and English

Post by julianharty »

There's a combined review in Spanish and English of 4 classic mid-range Italian bikes http://www.cambriantyres.co.uk/video-br ... ravaganza/ The four bikes in this video review are:
  • The Laverda SF 750
  • The Ducati 500 Sport, parallel twin
  • The Ducati 600 Pantah
  • The Moto Morini 3 1/2 Sport
The Morini stole their hearts. I think there's a review in print of the same test in one of the UK motorbike magazines in August 2021.

They were all shod with BT46 tyres from what I understand, however the review didn't mention them. I did buy a set though after watching the video, so perhaps they did the trick :)

Surely the Ducati 500 was there to make up the numbers? Was never a popular bike...

Certainly wasn't - but for some reasons we often cannot fathom, some things get popular over time, bugs get ironed out, fixes get found, etc. Maybe there's a corner somewhere where these are popular? España perhaps?

I think they were made in Spain. Doesn't excuse the trio for including it. A Guzzi Monza would have been better.

It's nice to see that the bikes all have signs of regular use, they aren't just sat in a museum or cosseted in a collection

I watched two other videos featuring a Kawasaki 500 triple and a Honda CBX 1000 - which I own along with my 3 1/2 Sport! Seems I made some astute purchasing decisions years ago!

Did the National Rally this weekend and saw a 500 twin Ducati at Fimber this afternoon.

The other bike was a dream of mine at 16, I could only afford a Maxi!

I had a Puch 3 speed, hand gear change model (the vz50) while my school friend had the GPS. I do remember wanting his bike which seemed so much more exotic than the myriad Fizzies and AP50's. I also joined the NRR on Saturday, my first time and pootled about around my area. I now understand more of what's involved for those who want to achieve the higher awards of the NRR and will probably join it again next year.

BTW: the Round Britain Rally is also great fun and has fewer time pressures while visiting more interesting sights than the NRR. I managed to visit one of its locations while on the NRR.

760 miles over the weekend for me. Did the full Platinum. Rained from Alston until t'Dales. I had to wring out my gloves at Newby Bridge. Then in the Peaks a biblical thunder storm with rivers running in the road, rocks from fields, poor visibility etc. My friends started in Dorset and we met at Uddersfeeled and they only had damp roads! It was a challenge. Sunday was a much better day. I rode some glorious roads, some of which were empty. It was very quiet on Saturday evening for some reason!

Why not a Morini Club 'challenge' to encourage people to ride with a suitable prize for the winner? I'll put it to the committee for next year.

I'd be up for a Morini club challenge next year.
