350 sport battery 1976

Post by hphilbo »

Hi, I’m looking for advice on the correct rating for a new battery for my 350 sport 1976 ( obviously kick start only). The existing battery is a Yuasa YTX 5L - BS, 12v 4Ah and is past its best.
I was going to get a direct replacement until I checked the ‘Blue Book’ and it quotes 15Ah.
Cheers

The electric start bikes had the bigger battery. I think the earlier ones had 9Ah batteries.

I use a generic SLA battery. Way cheaper & lasts for years.

12N93B was I think the original 9 ah battery. As others have said a modern sealed battery can be had now and although it is less capacity the 4 ah you have will work fine as long as your charging system is working. Careful with some modern replacements though, they are a millimetre or two over sized in some cases and will not sit properly in the original battery tray.
